With only three games on tap tonight after a busy Wednesday, we have to pick our value carefully. However there is a unique wagering game this afternoon from London, England between the Hawks and Nets, and this is how I’ve chosen to kick off my weekly parlay.
Nets vs. Hawks
While this is considered a home game for the Hawks, they are far from home in this one, and the NBA Odds have them as a +1 ½ underdog on this seemingly neutral court. Even with the recent surge from the Nets, they fell off against the Raptors on the second night of a back to back this past weekend, and even against the shaky Hawks, I think the Nets are going to have some trouble scoring here.
In general this could be a very low scoring game, but I am thinking the Hawks could be the sneaky play this afternoon. Even though they will be without their starting small forward, DeMarre Carroll, they can light up the Nets over seas. Jeff Teague is still one of the most underrated point guards in the NBA on both sides of the ball, and despite not having much inside presence, neither do the Nets for that matter.
Atlanta has a sneaky good defense, and with both teams having ample time off, I’m siding with the slight underdogs in this one. You may take the moneyline if it suits you better, but for now, let’s call the play Hawks +1 ½.
Thunder vs. Rockets
Houston barely edged out a very banged up Pelicans team last night, and now they head back home to welcome in the Thunder. Without Russell Westbrook once again tonight, the Thunder are +2 ½ underdogs to a team with no rest, and a total of 206. Despite the Thunder being really appealing here, I see the total as a much safer bet. It seems to me the sportsbooks are begging you to take the points with OKC, and I’m not falling for it.
Instead, the total of 206 seems rip for an over bet, and if you take into account the Rockets record with no rest, I think you’ll agree. The Rockets are 7-3 cashing the over on the second night of a back to back, and with the Thunder coming to town, it should be more of the same tonight. With Chandler Parsons back, it gives the Rockets another huge weapon, and even with all of the point guard injuries, the Rockets are going to score.
Kevin Durant will obviously be in for another huge game against one of the league’s worst small forward defenses, but he will have to have some help from at least one and maybe two other Thunder players to get the win on the road. Durant has been amazing once again in the scoring department, but that doesn’t necessarily translate into wins. However I think he could easily reach 30-40 points again, and if he does, the over has great value for our NBA picks tonight.
In their first meeting against one another, the Rockets only put up 86 points to the Thunder’s 117. OKC may have similar upside offensively, but the Rockets will almost surely match their output from last game by the middle of the 4th quarter. Look for the over as the second leg of the parlay.
My Pick: 2-team parlay: Hawks +1 ½ & OVER 206 OKC/HOU
