The Oklahoma City Thunder will and San Antonio Spurs are vying for the top spot in the Western Conference. Home-court advantage will be vital in the playoffs and the Spurs are looking to maintain their one-game lead. But will that be enough to add the Spurs to our NBA picks?

Although the Spurs have struggled against winning teams this year, Wednesday’s matchup is manageable as the Thunder are still without Russell Westrbook.

The Oklahoma City Thunder can win because…

The Spurs don’t have a great track record when facing elite teams. San Antonio lost at home to Portland on Friday night and also has home losses against the Houston Rockets and Thunder this year. Overall, the Spurs are 7-9 ATS when facing a winning team and just 9-7 straight up.

As for the Thunder, they’re 11-6 ATS in the same scenario and 12-5 straight up. That’s why they’re worth trusting on the NBA odds.

The San Antonio Spurs can win because…

This is a winnable game for them. Sure, the Spurs are struggling against the league’s best teams but the proposition is about 50-50 (9-7 record). It’s not as if they’re getting blown out. And with the Thunder missing a key piece, that will make their job that much easier to get a confidence-boosting win.

The Thunder have dropped three of four on the road and are 0-2 this season when on the road as a dog of 3.5 to six points. Delving further back, they’re dropped eight of 10 in that scenario. Take the Spurs with your sports picks. They’ll take care of business at home.

Outlook & Pick

The Spurs won’t be messing around here. They won’t let Kevin Durant beat them as they’re too smart for that. They’ll force the Thunder to find some other options and that’s not likely going to work on the road.

The Spurs have not played well against the league’s elite teams this season but this is opportunity to beat an elite team that’s shorthanded. That’s good enough. Expect the Spurs to be focused, so I’ll take them with my NBA picks.
