NBA Picks: OKC Thunder Visit The Houston Rockets
The Oklahoma City Thunder (39-14 SU, 13-11-2 ATS away) will be on the road this Wednesday evening, as they visit the Houston Rockets (29-26 SU, 17-9 ATS home) in a Western Conference matchup that is expected to feature plenty of offense and very little defense.
Tip off in this once is scheduled for 8:05 PM EST from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas and can be seen live on television, with local broadcast coverage provided by Fox Sports and Comcast SportsNet.
As it stands right now, the NBA odds are giving the advantage to the Thunder in this one, listing them as -3 point favorites on the road; and as expected, with these two high-scoring offenses, the over/under total is coming in at 219 ½ points.
Oklahoma City Thunder
The Oklahoma City Thunder come into this matchup in a bit of a funk, having lost two consecutive games right before the All-Star break and three of their last four contests played on the road.
Oklahoma City has also been unsuccessful covering the point spread against the Rockets when meeting up with them in Houston, going just 2-5 ATS in their last seven meetings.
However, the Thunder won both matchups against the Rockets this season straight up and against the spread, winning 120-98 at home back on November 28 and 124-94 on December 29 in Houston.
In those two games, the Thunder shot 50.8% as a team, while their defense held the Rockets to just 40.6 shooting.
OKC is 5-1 ATS in its last six games versus Western Conference opponents and 14-5-1 ATS in its last 20 when facing a team from the Southwest Division.
The Rockets have been playing the flip-flop game as of late, rotating wins and losses it last six games, allowing opponents to score nearly 110 points per game (109.3) during that span.
Houston, who has won 11 of 14 at home and is hanging on to the 8th and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. But, they must step it up on the defensive end to secure postseason birth.
They have also done a great job covering the point spread lately, going a perfect 4-0 ATS in its last four games played at home, 4-1 ATS in its last five versus Western Conference opponents and 6-1 ATS in its last seven games overall.
These two squads own the number one and two offenses in the NBA, so the 219 ½ over/under total is certainly attainable with the way the Thunder and Rockets light up the scoreboard.
OKC is over in four of their last five games overall and four of five versus Southwest Division opponents. Meanwhile, the Rockets are over in five of their last six overall and 9 of their last 12 played at home.
We know both team can score, but while the Thunder’s defense is average at best, the Rockets defense is absolutely atrocious. For this reason I am adding the Thunder to my NBA picks and laying the -3 points. Oklahoma City should easily win this game and the small spread will be easy for them to cover
