We crashed and burned last night with a couple of bad breaks, but now heading into Tuesday’s short slate there is still value to be had. The NBA odds are trickling out, and it’s time for me to release my NBA picks of the day.

Spurs vs. Timberwolves
Both the Spurs and Wolves played last night, and both were on the receiving end of a loss. The Spurs lost to the Pacers in Indianapolis, and now on the second night of a back-to-back they have to travel into Minnesota to play the Wolves. The NBA odds have the Spurs as -10 ½ favorites in this one, with a total of 207 points, and while you should be right to expect the Spurs to potentially rest some players here on the second night of a back to back, the fact that they lost last night is actually working in our favor.

Even if the Spurs rest some players, which I doubt they will thanks to the loss, the Spurs have still been pretty good ATS on no rest this season. San Antonio is 8-5 ATS this season when playing on the second night of a back to back, and they have been even better after a SU loss. The Spurs are 6-2 ATS this season coming off a loss, and even on nights where they rested or were without players due to injury after SU losses, they have come out and dominated.

The Spurs' average margin of victory in games off of a SU loss is more than 17 points, and with the Wolves coming into this one on no rest too, it makes for the Spurs to be a solid wager. The Wolves are only 5-7 ATS this season when playing on the second night of a back to back, and no matter if they are coming off a back to back or not, the Spurs are going to play good enough defense to hold down this young team to get the cover. For one of my NBA picks, I am laying the points with the Spurs, who are 18-13 ATS this season when playing as road favorites.

Magic vs. Lakers
The Warriors had the Magic last night ATS, but gave up 36 points in the fourth quarter to ruin our final play of the evening. However, tonight the Magic travel down into LA to meet Kobe Bryant and the Lakers for the final time this season, and the NBA Odds have the Magic as -3 favorites, with a total of 213 ½. While the spread is intriguing, the total has been rising ever since it opened at 211, and while that burned us yesterday, probably along with several other big movers who were forcing totals up last night that fell under, I am still looking at the total as a potential value play with the Magic playing on no rest.

This season Orlando is 8-4 cashing the over when playing on the second half of a back to back, and with how badly their defense has been playing recently, it might not be a bad play, especially if the Lakers can score some points. Orlando has given up a average of 113 points per game over their last eight games heading into their matchup with the Lakers tonight, but there are some major injuries that are forcing me to look at this at a different angle.

We already talked about over the weekend how badly the Lakers’ offense plays without Bryant in the lineup, but what about the Magic and Nikola Vucevic. The Magic big man did not play last night due to a groin injury that he says has been bothering him for quite some time, and if he is forced to miss this game tonight, the Magic and Lakers might get into a lower scoring affair. The Magic’s Offensive Rating drops from 106 to about 100 without Vucevic, and even though Bryant hasn’t been playing a huge role offensively, if he misses again, this total is a little too high on the NBA odds board, especially if Vucevic is out again as well.
