After splitting a pair last night on the large slate, the NBA Odds available tonight aren’t quite as plentiful, but the value in sure is. Here are my best NBA Picks for this Thursday evening.

Raptors vs. Hornets
We lost on the Hornets last night after they didn’t show up in their game against the surging Magic, and now Charlotte heads out on the second half of a back to back as they head home to face the Raptors. The NBA Odds favor the Raptors barely in this one at -1 at some shops, but at others the line is still at a PK where it opened, with a total of 195 ½. While the Hornets have been better at home this season going 10-4 SU, they are only 7-6-1 ATS when playing at home.

Last night Charlotte was hoisting threes to begin the game, and they shot themselves right out of the game early on. While it is apart of their new strategy to hoist a bunch of threes, it was not working last night against the Magic’s defense. Tonight, if they follow the same strategy, the Raptors are going to be the play in this one. Toronto’s weakness has been in the post, and even without the services of Al Jefferson for the next four games, the Hornets still have the ability to go inside against the Raptors, but they still might not.

This could mean a ton of missed shots and lots of transition opportunities for the Raptors in this one, but either way it goes tonight, the game script could lead to the under being the best play. The Hornets are 2-1 this season cashing the under on the second half of a back to back, and the under has cashed in six of Charlotte’s last seven home games. On top of that, the under is 5-0 in the Raptors’ last five road games, and the under is 4-1 in their last five games overall.

NBA Pick: Raptors & Hornets UNDER the Total
Best Line Offered: 196 (-110) at Pinnacle

Rockets vs. Lakers
This is the type of game where you want to bet against both teams, but that is virtually impossible at most shops, so one of these teams has to win. Tonight the Rockets come in as -6 favorites on the road at the Staples Center, with a total of 213 ½. The Rockets dominated the Lakers just a few games ago in Houston where they won 126-97, but after the Lakers knocked off the Bucks two nights ago, will they parlay that momentum into a win in this one?

I doubt it, but I do have one of the best ways to bet against both teams tonight, and that’s taking the under once again. Despite the over cashing in their first meeting this season, the under cashed in the last three meetings of last season between these two teams, and in the final two games last season neither team reached 100 points. Three of the last five times these two teams have played one another from LA the total has gone under, and despite the horrific defenses from both teams, I see it cashing again here tonight.

LA still has the worst shooting percentage of any team his season at just over 41 percent, and as a home underdog this season, the Lakers are 4-2 cashing the under. Houston is also 9-7 cashing the under against the West so far this season, and even though the Rockets have been scoring about 110 points per game in their last ten contests, I could see them falling flat tonight. Even though neither team played last night, that may help us tonight considering these two teams are a combined 16-11 cashing the under with one days rest in between games, making this my preferred NBA Picks Thursday night.

NBA Pick: Rockets & Lakers UNDER the Total
