NBA Picks of the Day: Tempting Totals in Regular Season's Finale

It’s the final day of the regular season, and there are some games that don’t mean much in the standings. Those type of NBA Odds might be valuable, or not at all. However I think I’ve found two valuable plays tonight.

Trail Blazers vs. Mavericks
Unlike the rest of the Western Conference, the Blazers and Mavs are the only two teams who have the luxury of knowing what seed they are. The Blazers have been locked into at least the 4th seed thanks to winning their division, while the Mavericks got locked into the 7th seed over the weekend. Now they play one another, in tonight’s version of the I Don’t Care Bowl.

The NBA betting odds favor the Mavs by -7, with a total of 207 ½. Interestingly enough, the Blazers have already ruled our Nicolas Batum for this game, however they say that LaMarcus Aldridge is set to play tonight. That could obviously chance, but Aldridge has already had a day off this week, so he might only play limited minutes this evening in a meaningless game.

Speaking of meaningless, the Mavs have wrapped up the 7th seed in the West, and they rested most of their guys on Monday, and I would expect at the very least to not see Dirk Nowitzki, Tyson Chandler, or Monta Ellis tonight. If that’s the case, this could be a very free-flowing game, and that could lead to the over being a great play.

The over is 5-0 in the Mavs last five games, and the over is 7-2 in their last nine home games. The Blazers are 20-8 cashing the over in their last 28 games as road underdogs, and they are 18-6 in their last 24 games as underdogs overall. Take the over this evening.

NBA Pick: OVER 207 ½

Celtics vs. Bucks
Another meaningless game this evening is the Celtics and Bucks. However before the season we might have looked ahead at this game and thought it would be meaningless because both teams are in the lottery. However it’s because both have locked up a playoff seed as of last night, which is still crazy to think about. The Celtics are locked into the 7th seed as of last night, while the Bucks have wrapped up the 6th.

Tonight the NBA Odds have the Bucks as -6 ½ favorites, with a total of 200 points, and in this game like the one above, the fact that it doesn’t mean anything for both teams could be great for the over. I expect Brad Stevens to rest some of his players tonight after the game just a night ago, and while Jason Kidd could do anything tonight in regards to resting or playing his guys full minutes, with a tired and possibly resting Celtics team, the over should sky over tonight.

These two teams played just over a week ago in Boston and the total went way over finishing at 110-101. However four of their last seven meetings since December 2012 have gone over the total, and I'm placing my NBA picks expecting them making it five out of eight tonight.

NBA Pick: OVER 200
