Wednesday is here for another big slate of games. Let’s see if we can cash a couple of winning NBA Picks tonight heading into March Madness tomorrow.

Thunder vs. Celtics
We saw first hand last night what the loss of Jae Crowder means for the Celtics, and tonight against one of the best small forwards in the NBA, it’s going to hurt even more. The Thunder come into this one with NBA odds of -4 on the road against Boston, with a total of 218 ½. While Boston could very easily keep this one close, the back to back is going to hurt them once we get late into the game, especially going against Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.

Without Crowder, the C's have no one who is good enough on the defensive end to slow down Durant, and with Russell Westbrook going on triple-double streaks recently, Isaiah Thomas, I wish you God Speed. Even if the Celtics predictably switch Avery Bradley onto Westbrook, while Bradley is a solid defender, he isn’t that good.

People are going to look at how bad the Thunder have played on the road and be turned away from this one, but with Boston coming in off the back to back, I find it hard to believe that without their best defender they are going to be able to cover the +4.

Boston’s offense also suffers some without Crowder in the lineup, which I pointed out last night in our first half play on the under. The Celtics’ Offensive Rating drops nearly a full six points with Crowder off the court. It hurts their spacing and their three-point shooting, and now Oklahoma City really only has to worry about a couple of guys for Boston. Plus, OKC has been playing well on defense recently, even if it hasn’t translated into wins ATS on the road. In their last five games the Thunder are averaging giving up only 98 points per game, and without Crowder, I don’t see the Celtics getting very far past that number.

Magic vs. Hornets
Another team coming off the back to back tonight that might be a great fade is the Orlando Magic. The NBA Odds have the Hornets as -8 ½ favorites in this one, with a total of 210 ½, and while Orlando hasn’t been bad coming off the back to back this season, they come into tonight pretty much out of the playoff race in the East, and missing two starters potentially as well. Both Nikola Vucevic and Elfird Payton missed last night’s game against the Nuggets, and while their absence didn’t mean much in that game, against a much better team in Charlotte, it’s going to show tonight.

Without Vucevic the Magic’s Offensive Rating this season goes down a full six points, and while their defense improved without Vucevic and Payton on the floor, the Hornets’ defense is vastly superior regardless. Charlotte ranks inside the top 10 in the league in Offensive and Defensive Rating, which only a handful of elite teams can claim. If Vucevic misses another game tonight, the Hornets are by far the better play coming into tonight as only -8 ½ favorites.

The Hornets have covered in six of their last eight games, and even though they are coming off a SU lost to the Mavs, before that game Charlotte had won seven games in a row. They are on a nice seven game home stand that ends after tonight, and they will want to bounce back tonight against an inferior team. Charlotte has a chance at home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs, and they will need to win games like this one to do it. Even though they put u a dud in their last game offensively, in the Hornets’ last eight games they are still averaging over 115 points per game. Lay the points with them as your NBA picks tonight assuming that the Magic will be tired and still banged up.
