NBA Picks Of The Day: A Pair Of Favorite Value Plays To Grab NOW!

Thursday brings us a much more consolidated slate. However, there is still value on the boards for tonight, and I have found two games that could be great NBA Picks.

Pelicans vs. Pacers
New Orleans has nothing left to do but pack it in this season with all of their injuries. However, the Pacers are still fighting to stay in the playoffs, and they are in a three-team race for the bottom two spots in the Eastern Conference right now. They are going to need every win they can get down the stretch of the season, and tonights should be a perfect example of that.

Right now the NBA odds have the Pacers as -13 favorites in this one, with a total of 207 ½. While Indiana has had their ups and downs this season, they play much better at home, and with New Orleans starting mainly former D-League players tonight, the Pacers seem like the best play.

New Orleans is only 14-21 ATS this season when they play on the road, and they are a league-worst 6-17 ATS in non-conference play this season. They are 3-7 ATS on the road against the East this season, and all of this considered is enough to make you want to lay the points.

However, it gets better. The Pacers are a league-best 9-2 ATS this season when they play on 2-3 days rest. Considering they have been on a nice and long home stand during this stretch could make all the difference tonight against New Orleans.

Ryan Anderson will likely be out for this one, and it leaves Jrue Holiday and not a lot else for the Pelicans. Considering the Pacers are one of the best Defensive Rated teams in the league, especially at home, I am laying the points. In their last five games, the Pelicans have given up an average of 114 points per game, and in their last five road games, they have given up 116 points per game.

Jazz vs. Thunder
The loan play we cashed last night on our NBA picks of the Day was the Jazz mounting a mice comeback to take down the Rockets both ATS and SU. However, now coming off the back to back, and having to go into Oklahoma City, the Thunder come into this one as -10 favorites, with a total of 198 points. While I am tempted to take the over in hopes that the Jazz defense could falter some on no rest, I think the better play might be laying the points with the Thunder on the first half spread.

Utah should have a tough time with the high-flying and fast-paced Thunder offense to begin with, but coming off the back to back and having to deal with it is a difference animal, especially at this point of the season. On top of that, the Thunder have been very good in fist halves recently. OKC is averaging more than 60 points per first half in their last five games, and on the year they are averaging 56 points.

Compare that to Utah, who have scored only 42 points per first half in their last five games, and you have the potential for a good wager. Even though Utah is giving up only 44.4 points per first half in their last five games, a couple of those were against bad or slow paced, Eastern Conference teams.

If you take away their most recent game against the Bucks on the road and on no rest, the Jazz have given up some points to their opponents in the first half of games where Utah is the road team and playing tired. They gave up 52 points to the Warriors in the first half of their game against them earlier this month, and I see the Thunder doing similar things tonight.
