After a night off thanks to the start of baseball season and the National Championship game, this NBA handicapper is back in action tonight with a healthy six game slate of action.
Wolves vs. Kings
While the season is winding down, and games between teams like the Wolves and Kings don’t matter at all, there is still NBA Odds betting value in games like this one late this evening. The NBA odds have the Kings as huge -10 favorites tonight, and while it’s tempting to look at the other side of that line, the better play tonight might be the over at 211 points. While it may be the biggest total on the boards tonight, it represents a solid value with the lack of defense tonight.
The Wolves have a very limited frontcourt right now with all of the injuries, and tonight literally everyone may be out again. Nikola Pekovic is out, Kevin Garnett likely won’t play because it’s on the road, and Anthony Bennett and Gorgui Dieng are also not traveling with the team. This is going to mean a feast for DeMarcus Cousins tonight, and I expect another huge game from him on the offensive side.
However the Wolves do have Kevin Martin back tonight, and if he is hitting shots, the Wolves’ offense might keep up some with the Kings. Also Rudy Gay is listed as questionable for tonight, so his presence could help this total go over even more.
The over has cashed in 17 of the Kings last 25 games overall, and the Wolves have also cashed the over in four of their last five games. The Kings are also 4-0 cashing the over in their last four games against teams with winning percentages of less than 40%. Take it tonight in Sac-town.
NBA Pick: OVER 211. 5 at The Greek
Lakers vs. Clippers
The game tonight between the two Staples Center inhabitants could be the last time in a while these two teams meet up late in the season and no one cares. The NBA Odds seem to reflect that perfectly, as the sportsbooks have the Clippers as -17 favorites, with a total of 204 ½. The Lakers are very much trying to lose games right now to ensure they are able to keep their 1st round draft pick, while the Clippers are locked in an intense battle to win games.
The last time these two met up just two days ago, the Clippers won the game by 28 points, and at times the lead was larger than that. While the rational mind would come to the conclusion that it might be a solid play to lay the points here, I think the over once again presents safer value.
The only problem will be getting the Lakers to actually score the ball. The Lakers have failed to get above 92 points in their last three games, and in their last two they haven’t even touched 80 points. Even if the Lakers tried tonight, they would still lose the game by 15-16 points, but against a Clippers team that will probably only have to play their starters for 25-28 minutes of this one, it’s reasonable to think that the Lakers could get to 90 points in this one. NBA picks placed on the 'over' have cashed in 12 of the last 16 times these two teams have met over the seasons, and I think that trend continues.
NBA Pick: Over 204 ½
