We got our butts handed to us yesterday after the total in the Golden State game looked like it was going to cash, but we lost. However, I am back with more valuable NBA Picks.

Playoff Record: 3-3

Celtics vs. Hawks
With only two games on the slate for tonight, I am taking a page out of Mike Brenner’s book and going with some teasers to start off Tuesday night. On short slates like this, it is easier to get some value on a two-team teaser than it usually is with a single game line or total, and tonight is no different, especially for the Hawks and Celtics. The NBA odds are favoring the Hawks at -6 ½, with a total of 205 ½ in this one.

The big news is the loss of Avery Bradley, who could be out for the series for the Celtics. This takes away a very important player on both offense and defense for the Celtics, but does it really hurt as much as the media is letting on? Bradley is a great defender and floor spacer, but the Celtics are deep enough to overcome the injury, especially on defense.

Marcus Smart and Evan Turner are both very capable defenders, and those two are going to be the two guys who need to step up. Bradley’s offense has been inconsistent at best, and while he is a superior shooter to both Smart and Turner, the latter two players will still be able to get their shot against Kyle Korver.

That being said, I think teasing the Celtics up to +10 ½, and teasing the total up to 209 ½ is the way to go in this one. These two teams have not lost their defensive chops from Game 1, and I sincerely doubt either team has the ability to win by a ten-point margin.

Grizzlies vs. Spurs
The Grizzlies hung around for the first half of Game 1 before the Spurs woke up and starting crushing them. However, the question for tonight’s game is can we expect to see another snails pace. These two teams played at a pace of 86.6 in Game 1, and their games against one another in the past have been similar in style.

Tonight, with the NBA odds favoring the Spurs at -18 ½, and with a total of 187 points, I actually think the better wager is going to be the first half total of 93 ½.

The Grizzlies only scored 37 points in the first half of Game 1, and if it weren’t for the hot shooting of Vince Carter, it might have been even less. If the Grizzlies are getting shut down like they were in Game 1, I don’t expect more than 40 points from them in Game 2’s first half.

That being said, the Grizzlies are still going to play tough defense as they always do. We saw that in the first quarter of Game 1, and I would not be surprised if both teams fell below 20 points in the first quarter of this one. I am also tempted to take the under on the first quarter as well, but for now, take the under on the first half, because it would not surprise me to see both teams barely into the 40-point range, or one team still in the 30s by half time. That would be my NBA pick for this match.
