We split a pair of NBA Picks last night & now at 37-25-2 so far in the NBA Playoffs we focus on Hawks vs. Cavaliers. Let's beat the books with these plays on the spread and on the game total.

Spread Pick
Unfortunately for us hoops fans, the NBA Conference Finals have been a dud. The Rockets are no match for the Golden State Warriors, and even before all of the their injuries, the Hawks were pretty much to match for the Cavs. This series in the East has been the most difficult to handicap on why the Cavs are having so much success. Even without two of their best players, Lebron James and a bunch of role players waxed the East’s best team in Game 2. Now the Cavs are at home, and a -9 favorite in the NBA Odds.

Is it the greatness of James that is doing this to the Hawks, or is it just the Hawks are finally getting exposed? I think it’s more of the latter, but in the end James is doing things no other player can do, and that includes tonight’s game against the Hawks.

However, the injuries to this series make it really hard to handicap. Kyle Korver is out for the rest of the playoffs, and now with a commanding 2-0 series lead and home court advantage in their grasp, the Cavs would be pretty foolish to play Kyrie Irving at all in the rest of this series. They may not need him to beat Atlanta, but they will need him if they stand any chance against the Dubs. However Atlanta is also dealing with an injury to Al Horford, who may not play tonight either.

Even with the potential lack of Irving again, the Cavs are the play here at home at -9. James and his teammates have been playing excellent defense so far in these playoffs, and believe it or not, their defense gets a lot better when Irving is not on the floor. With all of the injuries for the Hawks, I am laying the points for my NBA pick tonight.

NBA Pick ATS: Cavs -9

Total Pick
We easily cashed the under in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals thanks to a horrible performance by the Rockets. Now we head into Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals, and the NBA odds makers have the total for this one sitting at 189 ½. This is a big dip from the totals of 197 and 196 of the first two games, and it could mean that the sportsbooks are overreacting to how low scoring the first two games have been. Now with the potential of some of both teams’ main players sitting, it could mean shorter benches and less defense than the first two games.

Even though the under is now 4-1 in the Cavs last five games, the over is 5-2 in their last seven home games dating back to the regular season. On top of that, even though the Cavs haven’t been there in a while, the over is also 8-3 for Cleveland in their last 11 Conference Finals games. The over is 15-6 in the Hawks last 21 games as underdogs, and the over is 5-2 in their last seven road games against winning home teams. Take the over, as the sportsbooks seem to have undervalued this total.
