After a much-needed week off for the All Star Break, the NBA returns tonight with two very interesting games. Both seem to have some nice NBA Odds value heading into the second half, and I have found plays on both of them tonight!
Mavs vs. Thunder
The first time these two teams hooked up this season the Mavs won the game, but Kevin Durant did not play. Not that Durant is back and looking like his old self again, this should be a completely different game that the one at the end of the December. The NBA odds have the Thunder as -5 favorites, with a total of 212, and with the Thunder on a roll, it’s hard not to like them here.
Even though Tyson Chandler is going to be back for the Mavs tonight, that shouldn’t affect the Thunder too much. Chandler was only limited at practice and it appears as if he might not be back to 100%. Rajon Rondo is also set to make his return tonight, but that trade has not worked out in Dallas’ favor so far. The Mavs’ Offensive Rating (ORtg) goes down over five points per 100 possessions when Rondo is on the court. This is surprising because a lot of people thought that he would only improve the Mavs’ offense, and he has done anything but.
However the health of Dallas means little here against the likes of Durant and Russell Westbrook. The Thunder are slightly undervalued here at home as -5 favorites, and they are 4-1 ATS in their last five games heading into this one.
NBA Pick: Thunder -5 at Pinnacle
Spurs vs. Clippers
The Clippers are heading in the wrong direction in the West standings, and with Blake Griffin out for another couple of weeks, it’s going to be very hard for tem to recover. They are almost out of the running to win their division thanks to the Warriors, and with this recent spell they could be a first round out. Tonight they once again have a tough home game against the Spurs, and the NBA odds have LA as a home underdog of +2 ½, with a total of 203 points.
Now that the Spurs have had a full week to rest, I expect a big game from them against the struggling Clippers. San Antonio’s defense is one of the top three in the NBA this season, and without one of their main offensive weapons, the Clippers might have trouble scoring tonight.
Even though both teams are struggling ATS, the Spurs were likely troubled by the dog days of January and not having enough rest. The Clippers on the other hand look like a team that could be in danger of being one of the league’s biggest disappointments this season.
LA is 3-7 ATS in their last ten games heading into the All Star Break, and they are only 3-6 ATS this season when playing as a home underdog. With Kawhi Leonard healthy enough to run circles around anyone who is defending him tonight, I'll add to my NBA picks the rested Spurs laying points on the road.
NBA Pick: Spurs -3 at 5Dimes
