Here on Friday night we have nine games on the slate, and after looking through the NBA Odds for this evening, here are the two plays I am leaning towards for my best bets tonight.

Suns vs. Celtics
After it looked as if Brandon Knight might not be available for this game because of food poisoning, the Suns’ guard looks ready to go tonight on the road in Boston. The NBA Odds have the Celtics as rather large favorites at -9½, but instead of taking a risk on one of these two teams in the spread, the total seems like a better wager between these two fast-paced teams. Right now the total sits at 208 points, and with both teams playing at a pace that’s over 100 this season, the over looks like a winning play.

Even though the number has gone down a point since it opened at 209, I think it’s giving us some extra room tonight to wager on the over. Both of these teams are averaging nearly 103 points per game this season, and while the Celtics defense has shown flashes of greatness this season, ranking near the top of the league in Defensive Rating, their defense has not been that great recently. In their last four games, the Celtics are giving up an average of 104 points per game, and with the Suns giving up nearly 107 on the season per game, the over is the play tonight.

Against the East this year, Phoenix has given up 105 points per game, and the Celtics ironically enough average about 105 points per game against Western Conference teams. The over is 5-1 in the Suns’ last six games overall, and it’s 5-2 in their last seven games on the road. Look for a very fast-paced game with a lot of shots early in the shot clock for both teams tonight.

Heat vs. Nuggets
Miami has had some tough times on the road this season, and now they have to go a mile above sea level to play the Nuggets tonight in Denver. The NBA Odds have Denver as a +2½ underdog at home tonight with a total of 193½ points. Denver is of course coming off a huge win against the Warriors two nights ago, but will that lead to a let down tonight against the defense-first Heat?

After being a pretty easy fade to start the year on the road, Miami has improved their ATS record away from home to 8-8 this season, and they have been very good ATS versus the West this season overall at 9-6-1 ATS. Even though they are only 3-3 ATS on the road against the West this season, their defense has still been the main reason for their success in inter-conference games. Combine that tonight against a Nuggets team that is averaging only 92 points per game against Eastern Conference teams this season, and you have a recipe for a Heat win and cover on the road in this one.

Denver is giving up 104 points per game at home this season, and while he has only been playing 15-20 minutes so far this season, Jusuf Nurkic might miss tonight’s game with a sprained ankle, which could severely limit the Nuggets’ inside game to counter Hassan Whiteside and Chris Bosh.

Denver has not been a great bet at home this season to begin with at 6-10-1 ATS on the year, and more recently they have gone only 4-7-2 ATS at home in their last 13 games there. Miami is on a slight losing skid recently losing four of their last five games SU, but I see them correcting that tonight in Denver. On the year, Miami is 5-3 ATS as a road favorite. Take Heat as your NBA pick.
