It’s a huge slate of NBA action tonight with a dozen games on tap and the value is all over the board. Don't make any NBA picks without reading this article.

Hawks vs. Wolves
The Hawks are coming off of a dominating performance against the Celtics last night, and now they are on the second half of a back to back against the Wolves in Minnesota. While the Wolves have been better than expected this season, the Hawks are finally starting to hit their stride on both ends. Atlanta dominated the fourth quarter of last night’s game 40-24, and with Jeff Teague back in the lineup, this team looks good at both ends.

Tonight, the NBA odds have the Hawks as-3 road favorites in this one, but the total of 205 ½ seems like the more valuable play. With the Atlanta defense starting to look like the unit we got used to seeing last season, and coming off the back to back, it might be a lower scoring game at the Target Center this evening.

The under has cashed in four of the last six games for the Hawks on the road, as well as four of the last six games for the Wolves at home. While the Wolves have given up over 105 points per game at home this season, their most recent games have shown an improvement on the defensive end. Minnesota is giving up only 95 points per game in their last two home games, and in their last four games overall they are giving up just over 96 points per game. I see a lower scoring game tonight between these two teams tonight who both have a pace below 100, and who both can play defense when they want to.

Mavs vs. Spurs
The battle of Texas tonight features the better than expected Mavs, and the as good as expected Spurs. The NBA Odds have the Spurs as -9 favorites in this one, with a total of 195 ½, and after Dallas played last night and gave up 110 points to the Grizzlies, I expect them to give up even more tonight against the Spurs. With a total similar to last night’s, the easy play for me in this one is the over.

At 9-6 SU and ATS, the Mavs have made an early-season statement in the West. However, it’s early still and they haven’t looked great on the defensive end in their last two games. After averaging giving up right around 100 points per game in their first 13 games, in their last two contests the Mavs have given up nearly 114 points per game. Plus, in their four games against the division this season, the Mavs are giving up nearly 107 points per game.

These two teams have yet to play this season, but if the Mavs defense is starting to collapse after a month of the season, this game’s total is very undervalued. Dallas’ best chance in this one will be to play faster and hope they can get the Spurs out of their comfort zone of playing one of the slowest paces in the league. However, that will hurt the Dallas defense even more than it’s been over the last few games, so even if they only score into the mid 90s, the Spurs might get to 110 in this one. Plus, these two teams both have top 10 Offensive Efficiency ratings, so the sportsbooks are overvaluing the Spurs defense, and undervaluing both teams’ offenses. Play Over as the NBA pick.
