Happy New Year! I hope you rang in the start of 2016 with my winning plays last night, but if you didn’t, I have two more winning NBA Picks for you for the official NBA start of 2016!

Hornets vs. Raptors
Though I’ve never been there, I’ve always heard good things about the city of Toronto, and if the Hornets are experiencing those good things on New Year’s Eve, the odds are in favor of one or more of the players having a hangover at some time during the day before the game tonight. The hangover factor is in play tonight across the NBA odds board, friends, and with that being said, the total of 196½ looks like a prime under candidate here this evening because of it.

The total for this one has already dropped two points from where it opened at 198½, and between two of the top 10 teams in Defensive Efficiency, the under is by far the best play for this game. The Raptors play at one of the slowest paces in the NBA, and they should limit the Hornets to half court sets. As we’ve already discussed this week in our first winning pick with the Raptors, Toronto does not turn the ball over, so you best believe that as long as they play their game at home, the Hornets will have to work for every shot on offense.

The under has now cashed in four of the last five home games for the Raptors, and as I’ve stated before, with Jonas Valanciunas and DeMarre Carroll back, the Raptors are an entirely different team on the defensive end. I have no idea why the sportsbooks have not caught onto this yet, but they are not treating these two teams like top ten defensive units with this total. The sharps have apparently caught on and lowered the total two full points, and I am running to catch up with my first play of 2016.

Sixers vs. Lakers
Much like the Sixers and Kings game a few nights ago, no one in their right mind outside of the DFS and degenerate communities will be watching this game. The NBA odds have the Lakers as -3½ favorites with a total of 205 ½, and while I knew the Lakers would be favored in this one, I didn’t expect it to be by this much.

With Ish Smith and Mike D’Antoni now in the fold, the Sixers have looked like a completely new team. Smith has made the Sixers viable with his quickness and passing ability, and they are now 2-1 SU with Smith running the point, and according to Rotoworld they are playing at a pace of 108.5 with Smith starting. With their defense looking slightly better too, and going up against the team that I believe is the worst in the NBA, I think it’s a great chance to take the points with Philly, or even the moneyline in search of some 2016 profit.

The Lakers are only 1-6 SU in their last seven home games, and they are suddenly against a new look Sixers team averaging 103 points per game in their last four games. Every single Sixers win this season has come against the Western Conference, including one already versus LA for their first of the season. The Sixers are above .500 ATS on the road this season, but the books think even the causal bettor will ignore this. Philly was red-hot ATS earlier in the season before the month of December where they lost 12 straight games ATS, but they have won three in a row ATS to close out the month, and before December they hit a stretch where they covered seven of nine. This could be another start to a streak of making money on a bad team, and trust me, it feels so good when you’re right about the Sixers getting a win. Take the points for your NBA picks tonight.
