Monday was a day to forget in our NBA Picks, but Tuesday’s condensed slate of games gives us a chance to pick out the best of the best.

Lakers vs. Sixers
If there was ever a night for the Sixers to get into the win column, it’s tonight against the Los Angeles Lakers. The NBA odds have the Sixers as -1 favorites, with a total of 197½, and after covering in 10 of their 18 games this season, including their last five in a row, Philly is destined to get the win tonight against a Lakers team that might be the worst in the NBA.

Philly has been ramping up their defense over the last five games, and their offense is looking better with Isaiah Canaan and Robert Covington in the starting lineup with Jahlil Okafor. The Lakers will have few answers for the three guys mentioned above, and even after covering their last five in a row, the Sixers are still slightly undervalued here.

The Lakers are the worst offensive team in the NBA when it comes to their field goal percentage at just 41 percent, and even though a lot of that has to do with Kobe Bryant’s bad year, there are some other culprits on LA as well. While the Sixers aren’t a good defensive team, they have limited their opponents to only 97.6 points per game in their last five games, and if you take out their high scoring affair with the Rockets, that average dips to 93 points per game in four of their last five. I could easily see a lower scoring game tonight, but I am banking on the Sixers winning. We have been on them in in three of their last four ATS wins, so head back to the City of Brotherly Love tonight for some Tuesday night profit.

Mavs vs. Blazers
The late game for this evening would normally be a lackluster early-December game between two Western Conference lottery teams, however this one has some special intrigue to it. Both teams were in California last night and come into the night tired, and the NBA Odds have the Mavs as -1 ½ favorites in a fast-moving line. The intriguing part of the game is Damian Lillard left last night’s game with a stomach ailment, and if he doesn’t play tonight the Mavs could be an exceptional value.

It might be a stretch though to think that Lillard could miss if he feels even slightly better than last night. Lillard has never missed a game in his young NBA career, as he has started 264 consecutive games. If he misses tonight, it would almost be as big of a story as a Sixers win earlier in the evening. We might not know until later tonight if Lillard will play, and I think he is at best a game time decision. However, if we get word that Lillard is out this evening, the Mavs at -1½ are a pretty good play. Last night our “if” play didn’t pan out after it was announced that DeMarcus Cousins was going to play against these same Mavs. The same holds true for tonight though; if Lillard ends up sitting, and we can get advanced confirmation of this, the Mavericks are the NBA pick with both teams off the back to back.
