The Los Angeles Clippers have not been playing good basketball lately, but still it makes sense for them to be favored against the NBA odds in this spot vs. the New Orleans Pelicans.

Betting Odds
NBA odds have New Orleans at about a +6.5 underdog. For my selection of the day I will take New Orleans plus the points as they have been very tough to stop on the offensive end. Expect New Orleans to score a lot of points and for this game to go down to the wire.

New Orleans Pelicans
New Orleans is averaging 103.3 points per game, shooting 44.8% for the field, and 35.1% from distance. The issue for them has not been this side of the ball but the defensive side. Head coach Alvin Gentry has got this team rolling a little bit winning the last three games. They're going to push the tempo as much as possible and should come into this matchup with a lot of confidence against Los Angeles Clippers team that's not playing very well at this moment.

Defensively New Orleans allowing 109.3 points per game, 46.5% shooting from the field, and 40.7% from beyond the arc. Those are some of the worst numbers in the league but this play is not predicated on how well they play defense. What I like is how they have been playing recently with pushing the tempo to their advantage. I don't expect them to get a lot of stops against the Clippers but for them to hang with them on the other side of the floor.

Los Angeles Clippers
The Clippers are averaging 102.7 points per game, shooting 46.4% from the field, and 31.9% from beyond the arc. This is such an interesting team that sometimes look brilliant and sometimes horrible. They run the pick and roll about as well as anybody in the league, but sometimes they looked pretty stagnant on offense. I think part of the issue is the fact they don't have a true backup point guard who can help them move the ball, and overall they rank 17th in the league in assists per game. They don't react well to getting double teamed and at times have just been stagnant on the offensive end. The talent is there overall but for some reason they are just not playing well this early in the season losing four of their last five.

Defensively Los Angeles is allowing 103.7 points per game, 44.2% shooting from the field, and 35% from beyond the arc. Those are terrible numbers for a team that was expected to be one of the best in the West. They have been decent at limiting transition points and points in the paint ranking ninth in the NBA Defensively in both categories. Still, in order for them to be considered a playoff team their defensive percentages across the board will have to improve. Tonight they face a New Orleans team that has been rolling so I'm predicting they will struggle again on defense.

This Clippers team has really got me puzzled, are they good or bad? The talent seems to be there but recently they have not been playing well.  After a nice Thanksgiving day off I still don't expect them to come out and blow out a Pelicans team that is playing good ball right now. For one of your NBA picks I recommend backing the hotter team in New Orleans to take this game to the wire and stay within the number.
