NBA Picks: Suns vs. Mavericks

Even though they are barley hanging on to the mathematical possibly they could make the playoffs, the Mavs are technical still in it despite two teams being ahead of them.

Tonight they get a solid chance at a win, as they welcome in the hapless Suns to Dallas.

The NBA Odds for this one favor Dallas bit time at -13, with a total of 203. After the Suns played last night, will they have enough to challenge Dallas tonight, or will the Mavs win this one rather easily?

Take a look at my predictions for the First Round Playoff Matchups.

Phoenix played the Rockets tough last night, but Houston edged them out and clinched the 7th playoff spot in the West. That means there is one left, and three teams are still in the hunt. The Mavs could move to .500 once again with a win here tonight, and it would put them only two games back with four games to go. Although unlikely, I don’t expect a former championship team to lay down and die.

I also expect the Mavs to win big tonight, which is why I’m laying the points with my NBA picks tonight. People are going to look at Phoenix’s game last night and think +13 or +14 is a bargain. However, the Suns are just 6-13 ATS when playing on the second night of a back to back this season, and they are also 15-21-2 ATS on the road.

There is a bit of uneasy news, as Dirk Nowitzki was expected to play last night, and now he has been downgraded to questionable. He only did light work on the side and didn’t practice fully yesterday, and if Dirk cannot go, that will either blow this pick or make it stronger because of how much the line will drop. I think he will play.

As long as Dirk suits up and plays, I’m backing a Dallas cover with my sports picks. Dallas has covered three in a row and nine of their last ten games overall against the Suns, and they have also covered four in a row when playing the Suns in Dallas. Once again, if Dirk plays, lay the points.

My Pick: Mavs -13 (pending Nowitzki’s status)
