We are trying something different at SBR, looking into prop bets on this day to see if we can find extra ways to cash in our NBA picks and make more money against the books.
Unless you have the bankroll to do this against the NBA odds, we would recommend being cautious, because this is a volatile marketplace with swing variances and you want to make sure you can do this and have fun first and enhance your enjoyment of making NBA picks. Let's see what we have!
Bulls vs. Clippers - First Teams to 20 points
Both Chicago's and the Clippers most recent wins have been at the Staples Center over the Lakers. The Bulls offense was fine in scoring 114 against that Los Angeles team, and whose isn't. But prior to this, Chicago and had been spotty over a five-game stretch offensively. The other L.A. squad, the one that wins, has been far more consistent even without soon to be boxer Blake Griffin. Chicago has been playing 'small ball' due to injury and lacked cohesiveness, which is why taking the Clips to be the first team to reach 20 points at -160 sounds like a good wager.
Prop Pick: Clippers score 20 points first
Bulls vs. Clippers - First Half Wager (Clippers -3)
Chicago might not get off to a great start, but could worth a look for wagering purposes before halftime on this ABC afternoon televised affair. As most NBA bettors are very aware, the Bulls have been a far better wager on the road again this season. They have shown a proclivity for covering the first half number away from the Windy City when they are at the right price. For the this contest, the first half total is 102 and when Chicago is on the road and total is between 100.5 to 103, they are 8-1 ATS, winning by 2.2 points a game. The Clippers have really been playing well, but when they have won 12 or more of past 15 contests, they are abysmal 14-27 against the first half line, losing by -0.7 PPG.
Prop Pick: Bulls +3 for First Half
Celtics vs. Magic - First Half Wager (Celtics -2)
Orlando and Phoenix are doing their best of late to replace Philadelphia as the worst team in the NBA, at least recently. The Magic have lost 12 of 13 and not even been competitive by sportsbooks standards at 2-11 ATS. The latest horrible result was at Boston, losing 113-94 as 8.5-point road underdogs. The schedule has them playing home and home with Celtics and if Orlando has an ounce of pride, at the very least they come to play in the first two quarters. Besides a presumption of personal competitiveness from the Magic, they also fit this tidy system which reads like this: Play On home underdogs versus the first half line if they have a losing record and have failed to cover 12 or more time against the spread in past 15 outings. Teams like Orlando are 20-5 ATS the last five years.
Prop Pick: Magic +2 for First Half
Warriors vs. Knicks - Warriors Over/Under 30 point First Quarter
Golden State was cruising along as expected yesterday, up 24 points on Philadelphia midway through the third quarter when they came unhinged against the league's worst team. The Warriors ended up with 23 turnovers, their second highest total of the season and needed a Harrison Barnes three-pointer to hold off the Sixers 108-105. No matter how good you are, some nights this will happen, but Golden State players are very aware of their surroundings and it is not lost on them tonight they are Madison Square Garden.
The New York Knicks might just be another below average Eastern Division team, but this is the Big Apple and a Knickerbockers upset will resonate nationally for a couple days in the local papers and on talk sports radio coast to coast before the Super Bowl talk really heats up. It doesn't seem to be a coincidence the Warriors are 4-1 and 5-0 ATS in last five games in cement jungle and this very prideful and immensely talented Golden State team will want to send a immediate and direct message that last 18 minutes against Philly was a fluke and show in the first quarter who the best team in basketball is and ring up over 30 points.
Prop Pick: Warriors Over 30 points in First Quarter
