Will the road dogs stay hot enough here or are the NBA odds low enough to back the home faves?

Sunday’s NBA betting card has its share of late tips, featuring the Houston Rockets hosting the Dallas Mavericks and the Atlanta Hawks visiting the Los Angeles Lakers.Dallas is completing a three-game road trip after cashing in its first two affairs, while Atlanta visits Staples Center on a 4-1 ATS run.

Dallas Mavericks at Houston Rockets

Houston shot 54.5 percent from the floor in Friday’s 118-110 victory over the Orlando Magic, while falling shy of cashing as a nine-point road favorite. Rockets mates Carlos Delfino and Chandler Parsons notched 21 points each, while Houston’s Omer Asik and James Harden logged 12 boards and eight assists, respectively.

Dallas ended a three-game losing streak on the same night, handing 98-90 defeat to the Brooklyn Nets. Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki came away with team-highs of 20 points and eight rebounds, with his squad cashing as a three-point road dog. opened Houston as a 5 ½-point NBA odds favorite for Sunday’s battle, with early wagers on the Mavs dropping the number a ‘hook’ to five. Both teams will have two days off before shifting to Dallas for the back end of this home-and-home set.

I am tailing the ‘steam’ here, backing Dallas as a road dog to extend its cashing streak against the Rockets.

Dallas is 7-0 ATS in its last seven meetings with the Rockets, including January’s 105-100 win as four-point home ‘chalk.’ Nowitzki and Co. led by as many as 15 points, despite both squads connecting field buckets below 40 percent.

Dallas has also been playing the tighter defense among these foes, allowing 91.7 PPG in their last three matchups, while bringing in a 15-3 spread record over their last 18 duels with Western Conference rivals. Houston has given up a sizable 108.3 in its most recent trio of duels, leading to a 0-3 ATS mark.

NBA Picks: Dallas Mavericks +5 (

Atlanta Hawks at Los Angeles Lakers

Los Angeles notched its fourth win in five games with Thursday’s 116-94 triumph over the Minnesota Timberwolves, cashing as 10-point home ‘chalk.’ Lakers guard Kobe Bryant piled in 33 points, while mate Dwight Howard logged a second straight double-double with 11 points and 13 boards.

Atlanta saw a four-game winning streak end with Friday’s 92-87 defeat to the Phoenix Suns, failing to collect as a four-point road favorite. Hawks center Al Horford led his squad’s scoring with 20 points, while uniting with guard Devin Harris for 10 assists.

The Lakers topped Atlanta in last season’s sole meeting, 86-78, cashing as a 5 ½-point home favorite. Bryant was held to 10 points for Los Angeles, while the Hawks connected from the field at a subpar 34.3 percent clip.

Sunday’s clash saw open the Lakers as six-point favorites, with early NBA betting on Atlanta driving the number south to 5 ½. The Hawks are playing the front end of a back-to-back spot before heading to Denver, while Los Angeles has one day off prior to heading east against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

I am adding the Hawks as road dogs to my Sunday sports picks, looking for Larry Drew’s squad to stay close enough here.

Atlanta is 5-1 ATS in its last six road spots against clubs with winning home records, while holding foes to 92.8 PPG in the team’s most recent five matchups on opposing floors. Los Angeles has picked up its octane, but has been overvalued with a 3-8 ATS mark in its last 11 spots that came after a victory of more than 10 points.

NBA Picks: Atlanta Hawks +5 ½ (
