The Wizards, sitting at 20-8 on the season, should be able to run away from the young Celtics tonight, making them out preferred play with our NBA picks on Saturday night.

Odds Overview
Early NBA odds show the Wizards laying quite a few points, which isn't all that surprising given Washington's good start and the fact Boston is still adjusting to their new additions from the trade.

Though the opening number was all the way up at 203.5, we've seen somewhat of a significant drop already, with the current O/U at 201.

Washington Wizards
Ahead of tonight, the Wizards have gone a nice 7-2 over their last nine games overall. After dropping consecutive games (both at home) to Phoenix and Chicago, Washington bounced back in a major way against the Knicks on Christmas Day, winning 102-91.

It was the John Wall show in the win inside Madison Square Garden. He had 24 points, 11 assists and six rebounds, pacing the Wizards in a game they controlled from opening tipoff. Washington outrebounded New York 45-36 and outscored them 50-30 in the paint en route to the dominant victory. Bradley Beal had a 17/5/5 line, and Nene Hilario, Marcin Gortat, Kris Humphries and Rasual Butler all hit double figures in scoring too.

It stands to reason that this young (for the most part) Wizards team will continue to improve, as Wall and Beal are both young and gaining in confidence by the day. As a team, the Wizards are ranked fouth in assists per game (25.0), while they're also fourth in scoring defense (96.9 points allowed per game), which suggests they've been one of the more balanced teams out there this season.

Boston Celtics
Boy, has this Celtics been streaky or what? They lost five, then won three in a row, then dropped three, then won three more, and now have suffered three consecutive losses coming into this evening's road date in the nation's capital. Overall, Boston is 10-17 on the year.

The big news coming out of the city, obviously, has been the departure of Rajon Rondo. In his place, the Celtics were able to get some nice young pieces like Brandan Wright and Jae Crowder, along with the aging Jameer Nelson and a couple NBA draft picks. The immediate results thereafter have been poor to say the least, and you have to figure those struggles will continue as coach Brad Stevens continues to tinker with the starting five.

This is very clearly a team building for the future, so Stevens is going to be content with his guys taking a beating here and there. He loves to ride the hot hand, making his rotations all the more difficult to figure out, and thus that inconsistency is born and bred. When it comes to NBA betting handicappy, this is relevant because it makes Boston one of the most difficult teams to back with our sports picks on a nightly basis. Hard to trust.

NBA Pick
The Celtics are in rebuilding mode, so there are going to be a lot of growing pains along the way. They're going to have rough nights in this league when they come up against a more experienced, and simply better overall team.

That's what we've got in store here tonight, as Washington has been one of the best teams in the entire conference thus far and appear to only be getting and better. That backcourt duo of Wall and Beal has been doing a lot of damage and should have a lot of success again tonight against Boston's suspect interior defense.

With our NBA picks for Saturday evening, let's not overthink it. We believe the Wizards will cruise in this spot, so we'll bank on them covering this large number on their home court. Good luck!
