In the most competitive first round series, the Clippers and Spurs face off in game 3, for what should be a thrilling showdown as both side look to get ahead. Join us as we preview the NBA odds and serve up our predictions.

Series Tied
The Clippers and Spurs collide in game 3 on Friday. As the only competitive series in the first round of the NBA playoffs, with the series finely poised 1-1, it's anybody's game. Will the Spurs come through as the home favourites or will the Clippers spring a surprise as the road underdogs?

By the NBA odds, the advantage goes to the Spurs to win the series at -185 NBA odds. The Clippers, meanwhile, are trading at +165 NBA odds. That NBA betting outlook has a lot (if not all) to do with past trends and perceptions, as well as the perceived quality of the Spurs. The reality is the Spurs enter the NBA playoffs as the sixth seed while the Clippers are the third seed. What's more, the Clippers are still very much in it and eager to defy the NBA odds by pulling off the upset over the defending champions.

The Clippers opened the series to the tune of 107-92 win over the Spurs, a handy win all the while covering as the mere 1.5-point home chalk. Game 2, the Spurs got into the win column with a narrow 111-107 win, all while matched as the 2-point road dogs.

Spurs Home Advantage
The San Antonio Spurs finished the season behind a 33-8 SU mark at home and a 21-18-2 ATS mark, highlighted by a 9.6-point margin of victory. Home form was pivotal towards their regular season account and advancing into the playoffs. On the road, they were mere mortals with a modest 22-19 SU record.

Now that the series moves to San Antonio, the Spurs have to fancy their chances of getting ahead in the series. Indeed, they are the favourites on the NBA betting odds board to win game 3 at -180 NBA odds.

In the lead up to the NBA playoffs, the Spurs rounded into form winning ten of their last eleven games. Only a 108-103 loss to the Pelicans put  a blemish on their form.  The Spurs also won eight of their last nine home games; the last home defeat was a narrow 128-125 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Clippers Have a Shot
The Clippers have a shot in this series, despite the NBA odds stacked against them. They are matched as the +160 road underdogs to win outright and as the 4-point road pups against the spread, but they finished the regular season with a respectable road account overall. They went 26-15 SU on the road and with a 22-19-0 ATS record, highlighted by a 5.2-point margin of victory.

Where they came up slightly short is as road underdogs, pulling off just a 6-9-0 SU record and a 7-8-0 ATS record, which includes a 2.9-point margin of defeat. That said they did win eight in a row on the road down the stretch, with their last road loss at Dallas Mavericks on March 13 (129-99). As well, it's worth noting that the Clippers won the last two games of the regular season series with the Spurs – 105-85 in San Antonio and 119-115 in Los Angeles.

NBA Betting Verdict
As this series is so finely poised on a 1-1 mark, it can go either way. There's a lot to recommend both sides to the victory, but the Spurs' home record this season and form down the stretch makes a compelling case for a Spurs win on your NBA picks. Put it this way, it would be surprising if the Clippers won game 3 in San Antonio, even if they did win there way back in December this is a playoff game and the Spurs have something to prove.  Take the Spurs to edge this one out over the Clippers at -180 NBA odds, but take the Clippers to cover the 4-point spread for your NBA picks.

NBA Picks: Spurs to win at -180; Clippers to cover +4.0
