The Minnesota Timberwolves started the 2013-14 campaign with so much promise but have all of a sudden hit a wall. After starting the year 6-3, they’ve now dropped seven of their last 10. The odds are against them for this one, lets see if the Spurs land our NBA pick.

The San Antonio Spurs can win because…

The T-Wolves are in disarray. Minnesota has lost six of eight with their only wins coming in Dallas and at home to Brooklyn. That’s not exactly encouraging. As for the Spurs, they are playing like a team possessed as they’ve won 15 of their first 18 games to start the season.

The challenge for the Wolves is that their defense has completely fallen apart. They rank 22nd in points per game allowed (101.8) but that’s better than what they’ve done over their last 10 games (103.8). The Spurs come into this contest as the third best defensive team in the NBA (92.1) and that should be the main difference in the NBA odds.

The Minnesota Timberwolves can win because…

They’re a quality home team. Yes, they have struggled recently but most of those troubles have come on the road where they are 3-7. At home, the T-Wolves are 6-3 and that’s because they do a better job scoring in front of their home audience. At the Target Center, they have averaged 108.7 points per game, which is the second-highest total in the league.

The Spurs started the year 13-1 but are just 2-2 in their last four games. The losses have come to respectable teams like Oklahoma City and Houston, and they barely beat Atlanta at home on Monday (102-100). Minnesota has a much better shot than it may appear to the naked eye, so consider them as a home dog for your NBA picks.

Outlook & Pick

The Spurs have won three of the last five meetings between the teams while averaging 100.8 points per game in the process. If they hit that average again – and by all accounts, it looks like they should be able to given Minnesota’s defensive problems – they’ll win. Add them to your NBA picks.

Pick: Spurs -2.5 at BetOnline

[gameodds]5/249068/?r-1=43-19-349/us[/gameodds]
