Utah should get back to more of a grind out defensive game in Miami tonight. This is a good matchup of 2 of the best defensive teams so far this season & I am not surprised by the low NBA odds total.

NBA Odds
NBA Odds makers have set this total at 182 across the board which seems low but isn't.  This game has all the makings of a slow-paced defensive battle and for one of my NBA picks I will be backing under the total in this matchup. There are some good odds out there like at Pinnacle Sports where you can take under the total at -105.

Utah Jazz
Utah is averaging 96.3 points per game, shooting 43.3% in the field, and 38.7% from beyond the arc. Although they are not attempting a lot of three-point shots per game averaging just over 19, they have been efficient ranking third in the league in three-point shooting percentage. After that though offensively overall in most categories they are ranked either in the middle or below offensively. This team has found its foundation on second chance baskets, ranking eighth in the league in offensive boards per game, and playing great team defense.

Utah is allowing 89.7 points per game, 40.9% shooting from the field, and 36% shooting from beyond the arc. They rank first in the league in opponent points per game and opponent shooting percentage from the field. They also rank first in the NBA in field goals attempted at just 74.4 per game. Defensively they don't get out and defend the perimeter all that well but inside with Derek favors and Rudy Gobert they have been great defending the interior ranking first in the NBA and opponent points in the paint per game.

Miami Heat
Miami is averaging 97.1 points per game, 45.7% shooting from the field, and 33.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Hassan Whiteside is really starting to come into his own and Chris Bosh looks like the old Chris Bosh. They are a middle tiered ranked three-point shooting team, but do a lot of damage in the paint averaging 47 points per game which ranks third in the NBA. Against Utah's interior tonight though they may struggle little bit in this aspect.

Defensively Miami is allowing 90.1 points per game, 41.3% shooting from the field, and 29.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Unlike Utah which has its strength in the interior, Miami is good all over the place on the defensive end. They rank second behind Utah in points per game and rank third in the league in opponent shooting percentage. they also ranked third in opponent three-pointers made per game at just over six per average. Eric Spoelstra has done a great job getting this unit to play together on defense.

With the defensive statistics in mind NBA odds makers have set this total as one of the lowest we have seen so far this season.  For one of your NBA Picks though I suggest to run with that notion and back the under expecting a slow paced defensive battle.
