We had a strong showing last night to boost our moral a bit, so let’s try once again to get some value out of tonight’s games, this time on a much shorter card.

NBA Picks of the day

With only four games to chose from tonight, whom should we back with our NBA Picks of the day?

Celtics vs. Magic

Boston played last night against a full strength Miami team and lost 101-109. However, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett did not play in the game for Boston. Even though they sat out last night and the C’s lost, a win tonight will lock them into at least the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference. I think that has been the goal all along, and even though they could still possibly move up, I think Boston will play this one last game at full strength before they shut down their big guns.

The NBA Odds for this one sit at -4 in favor of the Celtics, with a total of 195 ½. I am thinking the C’s might be the play here, because Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett seem likely to play in this one despite sitting out last night. If they do, I think Boston -4 is great value against the hapless Magic. The Celtics’ twitter feed did say that barring any setbacks, both will return tonight.

The Celtics will use this game as one final tune up for the playoffs, so lay the points with Boston and don’t look back.

My Pick: Celtics -4

Grizzlies vs. Clippers

In a game that still could be a first round playoff matchup, the Grizzlies and Clippers take to the court tonight in Memphis. The NBA Odds for this game favor the Grizzlies at -3, with a total of 181.

Memphis hasn’t had much to play for recently, but they won anyways last night against the Rockets on the road. The Clippers were also on the road last night, as they barely took care of the Hornets in New Orleans.

With both teams likely still trying to play hard and not rest anyone tonight, I think the total is where we are getting most of our value in this one. While 181 points screams that this should be a lower scoring game, I’m not so sure. In fact, I see more value in a pick on the over here tonight.

We are at the point in the season where this game doesn’t matter as much as it would have a month or two ago. Even if the Grizzlies win this game, they have virtually no shot at moving any higher because the Clippers have already won their division. However I think that will play into our NBA pick tonight.

Even though the under is trending between these two teams, I’m siding with the over, because I think the books are undervaluing both teams at this point of the season. Four of the last five games for the Clippers have gone over the total and four of their last six road games have gone over as well. I see both teams being a little tired from their games last night, and I think a final score of about 94-89 is in our future. Take the over.

My Pick: OVER 181
