Golden State Warriors look to take a 2-0 lead over the Houston Rockets. Will they bank on home advantage or will the Rockets defy the NBA odds? Here's a breakdown of game 2 complete with NBA picks.
Houston Rockets Look To Bounce Back
Despite a superb performance by James Harden(28 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists) and the Rockets, they slipped to a 110-106 defeat in game 1. A result that fell in line with NBA betting expectations, but not without some adversity.
In the second quarter, the Rockets enjoyed a 16-point lead and looked all but poised to mastermind the upset. Then the Warriors, with some tactical changes, rallied behind a 21-4 run to take the slim 58-55 lead into halftime after which they never really looked back.
In the second half, it was more of the same, neck-and-neck action between the two sides, but the Warriors held off the Rockets. Stephen Curry proved to be the X-factor for the hosts as he lifted his side to victory behind a 34 point account that included 5 assists.
Down 0-1 in the best-of-seven series with the Warriors, the Rockets will look to find a way to bounce back tonight at the Oracle Arena. However, the NBA betting odds are stacked severely against them, matched at staggering +475 NBA odds they are a long shot to take the win tonight. That has a lot to do with the fact that they might have to play without Dwight Howard in game 2. The All-Star sprained his knee in Tuesday's dramatic opener and remains touch and go for tonight, if not for the rest of the season.
Golden Warriors Look To Bank On Home Advantage
The Golden State Warriors are up 1-0 in the series and they'll look to extend their lead to 2-0 with home advantage on Thursday night. As it is, odds makers firmly corner the game in their camp on whopping -650 NBA odds. They are also the 10.5-point home faves against the Rockets.
The Warriors improved to 44-3 at home behind the win in game 1. To date, they've lost just two games in the regular season and one in the playoffs at home. Against the Rockets they also boast a 6-0 SU record and 5-1 ATS record in their last six meetings.
NBA Betting Verdict
With the Rockets severely handicapped by Howards' injury, the Warriors may well fancy their chances to come through on their favourable odds. There is still James Harden to contend with, but if he doesn't get the sort of support from Terrence Jones and Josh Smith amongst others he can't do it alone. Particularly not against a Warriors side that is supremely confident when playing in Oregon.
All in all this should be a highly entertaining game 2 for NBA bettors to sink their teeth into. The Warriors are quite rightly the favourites to win outright at -650 NBA odds, but 10.5-points against the spread appears to be a bit much. Howard may sit out this game, but the Rockets are sure to rally all in one. They looked to be down and out against the Clippers yet managed to reel off three straight wins to win the series in game 7. Don't write off these hefty underdogs from your NBA picks.
