The Houston Rockets have scored a ton of points against the Portland Trail Blazers in the last two series meetings, so should bettors look to the 'Over' with their NBA picks tonight?

Let’s take a closer look at the NBA betting odds for this Western Conference matchup at the Rose Garden, with the opening tip scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Houston has won its last three games, including a 112-102 victory over the Sacramento Kings as four-point road favorites Wednesday night, while going UNDER the posted total of 219.5.

The Rockets are 12-11 straight up (SU) and 9-14 against the spread (ATS) in April the last two-plus seasons, with the UNDER going 12-10-11 in that situation.

Fallen flat

Portland has lost its last six games by an average of 17.1 points, which includes a 94-76 setback to the Memphis Grizzlies as 7.5-point home underdogs Wednesday night, while going UNDER the total for the first time in five contests.

The Trail Blazers are 10-20 SU and 13-15-2 ATS during the second half of the season, with the OVER going 20-10 in those opportunities.

Life on the road

NBA handicappers are going to have a hard time laying points on the road with the Rockets, considering they’ve compiled a 15-22 SU record on the road during the 2012-13 season, including a 6-16 mark versus conference foes.

It’s still important to note that Houston has covered five of its last seven games away from the Toyota Center versus teams that possess a winning home record.

Aldridge will likely return

LaMarcus Aldridge has missed the last four games, but the Trail Blazers leading scorer is currently listed as probable with an ankle injury to return to the floor Friday.  He has averaged 29.0 points and 9.3 rebounds in three games against Houston this season.

Portland became the only NBA team this season with four 1,000-point scorers on April 3, with Aldridge leading that group with 1,451.

I’m going to recommend that readers play the total as one of their sports picks, as the OVER is 12-2 in the Trail Blazers’ last 14 home games, while the Rockets lead the NBA in 3-point makes on the season.

Portland is going to have a hard time stopping one of the league’s best offenses, as it has allowed its last five opponents to shoot 51.4 percent from the floor.
