Houston Rockets (8-4, 3-2 away)
Houston Rockets are coming off three straight wins, a positive sign that suggests things are finally getting back on track. They beat the Knicks 109-106, Nuggets 122-111 and Celtics 109-85 during this stretch. Dwight Howard and James Harden have been stepping it up; the former especially who is averaging 17.2 points, a league-high13.9 rebounds and 2.4 blocks through 11 games. Against the Celtics Terrance Jones had his best game yet, scoring a career-best 24 points and played a large role in the win over Celtics.
Fast Facts: The Rockets ranks second in the league for points per game at 108.8 and first in rebounds per game at 47.6. They are 6-5-1 ATS overall (3-3-1 home, 3-2-0 away).
Dallas Mavericks (7-4, 5-0 home)
After a stuttering start to the season, Dallas Mavericks have finally found form (or so it seems). They are after four wins in their last five games, the only hiccup to mar this run of form was a 110-104 defeat to Miami on the road – but given that it was loss to the great Heat, it’s a forgivable one. Importantly, during this stretch they beat Washington and Philadelphia to maintain their perfect start at home on the season. Now, the Mavericks will attempt to extend that to six in a row when they host the Rockets, who are coming into form at perhaps the wrong time for the Mavericks. The last time the Mavericks enjoyed such a start on the season was in 200 7-08.
Fast Facts: The Mavericks rank fifth in the league for points per game at 105.7 and 18th overall on rebounds at 42.0 per game. They are 7-4-0 ATS overall (4-1-0 home, 3-3-0 away)
Rockets +130 (+3 -110 -) at Mavericks -150 (3 -110) betting tips and picks
NBA Betting Analysis: Both teams are hitting stride just in time for their clash, which augurs well for both sides. Hence the rather tight NBA betting line on offer at sportsbooks with the Mavericks installed as the three-point favourites and -150 favourites to win straight up. Home form provides good reading for the Mavericks as well they rank in the top five highest scoring teams so far this season – two things that should send them with confidence into this clash. As well, the Rockets haven’t won in Dallas since an overtime victory way back in December of 2009 and that trend favours the Mavericks nicely as they attempt to with a sixth straight home game.
The Rockets go into this game at the slight disadvantage, at +130 NBA odds to win straight up. Having played the Celtics last night partly explains why they are at the disadvantage. Interstate travel and back-to-back games can factor.
Fortunately, the Celtics went down early in the first quarter, from which point it was smooth sailing for the Rockets as they held on to a rather easy victory. So perhaps they won’t be overly fatigued but rather in fine fettle for tonight’s big clash against the Mavericks.
While road form has been a bit up-an-down where they are concerned; they split their two road games last week losing in Philadelphia in overtime before bouncing back with a win over the Knicks. Form has picked up of late and that bodes well for a second road win, fourth overall win.

NBA Betting Verdict: This should be a high-octane affair with plenty of scoring between the league’s top offensive outfits. As such, it really could go either way on the straight up win and that makes an NBA pick on the points the safer play. Having said that we’re going to go out on a limb and pile onto the Rockets who haven’t won in Dallas for a long time, which gives them added incentive to do so now that they have Howard in the ranks and the team’s form is on the ascent.NBA Picks: Rockets to win straight up
