The Houston Rockets face their toughest competitor yet the Los Angeles Clippers tonight at the Staples Center. Lets break down the NBA odds for this game.

It’s very rare that the Houston Rockets (3-0) find themselves as a 5 point betting underdog, but when they face a team that the Los Angeles Clippers (2-1) have with the talent of CP3 and Blake Griffin in the Staples Center, this is to be expected.

NBA Odds for Los Angeles, as we mentioned, are at a 5 point betting favorite according to 5 Dimes Sportsbook and the total is listed at 207.5.

Put on your sneakers because any game with these two teams involved will be a track meet. Conditioning and bench play will be key as the both teams can light the scoreboard up like a Christmas tree.

CP3 Is On Fire!

There’s no other way to put it, but “Cliff Paul’s brother” is playing at high level, leading the Clippers at a scorching hot 27.7 points, 12 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3.67 steals per game. If Paul keeps up this pace and the Clippers continue to improve, he might be a darkhorse as an MVP for your future bets for MVP of the league.

This is a player that can change the complexion of a game, but has never really been a 20 point per game scorer in his career; he makes the team better in other ways. Houston and Jeremy Lin will have their hands full with Paul as it’s quite possible that the visiting Rockets might see their first loss of the season courtesy of CP3.

A Confident Blake Griffin

We saw this in his rookie year, but didn’t see this a lot last season. It looks like Griffin has regained his old form from his rookie season. DeAndre Jordan has done a fantastic job minding the boards and adding in a little offense, but the Clippers will only go as far as Blake Griffin takes them. With Griffin and Paul hot at the same time, this team appears to be unstoppable. Griffin will have a tough matchup tonight when he faces Dwight Howard.

D-12: Back in L.A.

Playing with the Rockets has been a blessing for big man Dwight Howard thus far, but even though it is the Clippers that he’s playing, we don’t know how he’ll react to the Los Angeles crowd and the Staples Center.

Thus far, Howard is playing like he did with Orlando, averaging 15 points and 17 rebounds per game. Howard can easily score 20 plus points on any given night, but when he has the luxury of having a game changer like James Harden on this team, it’s not warranted. Harden and Lin have a way of making the best come out of Howard and alleviating some of the pressure that Kobe Bryant thrust upon him. He’s never going to hit his free throws regularly, but I’m expecting a huge night out of Howard. He’s more seasoned than Blake Griffin and this is good matchup for D-12.

James Harden play’s well in any arena, but this is a trip to his home of Los Angeles, California and Harden will look to put on a show for the hometown fans.

Outcome

Both teams are playing so well that this game is a bit unpredictable for your NBA picks. That said, expect a lot of points as both offenses appear to be running at peak performance.
