NBA PIcks: Rockets To Beat The Best Team When They Visit Warriors

Saturday, April 16, 2016 4:48 PM GMT

After setting the record for most wins in the season, Warriors now are chasing another championship. They take on the Rockets tonight at home and the NBA odds have made them a double-digit favorite.

Odds makers have Golden State at a -13.5 favorite like at Bookmaker -105. For one of my NBA picks I'm going to back Houston +13.5 at a little extra juice of -115. I don't expect the Rockets to win tonight but they played well last time at Golden State and have been playing well recently so I expect them to come in with some confidence.

Houston Rockets
The Rockets average 106.5 points per game which ranks fourth in the NBA but rank in the bottom 10 in most defensive categories. For Houston to hang within the number they're going to have to implement the same type of game plan that they did in their last matchup at Golden State.

Although they did not play that great and they allowed a lot of shot attempts (94) they did hold Golden State to just 35% from beyond the arc. In that contest they were actually tied with the Warriors going into the fourth quarter only to lose by 13 points, and NBA odds boards are reflecting that situation.

This is a team that can score and they shot almost 40% from the floor in that game but for them to stay within the number they're going to have to do a good job on the defensive side which is something they haven't done much this season. The tempo should be fast and this will play better in to Houston's hands. They like to get up a lot of shots per game especially from beyond the arc where they rank second in the league averaging 30.9 attempts.

On the other side of the ball however they allow a lot of attempts which could be devastating to them tonight against the best offensive team in the league. Still, Houston has talent and this will not be an easy spot for Golden State to come in extremely sharp after a very emotional week in breaking the all-time wins record.

Golden State Warriors
Golden State comes in averaging 114.9 points per game which ranks first in the league and they rank first across the board in every major offensive category. I don't think it is an understatement to say this is the best offensive team of all time, or at least one of the top five.

They do everything so well on this side of the ball that there is simply not that much to talk about. They are very good from the inside out scoring from the paint to beyond the arc and they have extremely good shooters across the board.

On the other side of the ball they have actually dropped off a little bit from last year but their opponent shooting percentages are still solid ranking in the top five of the league. The issue for them tonight will be the pace of this game and their emotional week, as mentioned.

Final Analysis
Golden State allows opponents to get up 89.4 attempts per game which is perfect for Houston to try and stay within this number. What really has me wanting to fade Golden State though is that they are human and this week has been a roller coaster for them. This will be a difficult situation for them to get up and play their best basketball.
