It turns out that the Nets are not only dinosaurs, but they are pretty lethal dinosaurs. Now they have a chance to put the Raptors on the brink of elimination, and playing at home should give them a great advantage. The NBA Odds have Brooklyn as -4 home favorites, with a total of 192 points. However the spread may be a little too sharp for my liking.
However the total of 192 looks to be one of the better plays for Sunday. This is a big game for both teams, but it’s probably bigger for the Raptors. The Nets probably won’t be overly concerned about losing this game. They are going to play the same game regardless. However the Raptors might be a little up tight for this game. This is by far the biggest game of most of their careers, and it should lead to a very defensive game.
The Raptors are a good defensive team regardless of what their stats say over the last few games. In fact even though they are giving up over 100 points per game in their last ten games, they still have a good ability to stop the Nets.
Even on the road, the Raptors have enough to slow down the Nets some. Being in Brooklyn isn’t going to lead to the Nets dropping 110 points in this game. However it might lead to their defense improving even more from Game 3.
The Sharp Pick
At 192 points, this total is much too high for the type of game this could be. Even though the last two games in the series have gone over, Game 4 will likely be one of the testier games of the series. Not only is it a must win for the Raptors, but as series go on in the NBA playoffs, it seems like the totals sometimes get lower. Teams are so used to playing one another by the 3rd or 4th game, their defense gets better as they adjust to matchups.
If that’s the case on Sunday, I think 192 points will be a great under value. The Nets have really benefited from the time off in between playoff games, and while I don’t think it’s hurt the Raptors, it’s virtually neutralized one of their greater advantages, their youth and athleticism.
With 2-3 days off in between games this regular season, the Nets have cashed the under at 10-7-2, and even though they only had one day off between Games 3 and 4, because the series has only seen four games in nine days, I think the Nets are at a great advantage because of it. For some reason, even though this series was the first to tip off in these playoffs, almost every other series has passed them up in amount of games played. Look for the Nets to be rested, and the Raptors to buckle down in this pivotal Game 4 for our NBA picks.
My Pick: UNDER 192
