It’s been a great start to the NBA preseason and while the exhibition games are winding down, hopefully, we can add another few wins before the regular season starts! Tonight, the final game of the evening looks to have some of the best value, as the NBA Odds from 5Dimes have the Clippers as -4 ½ favorites, with a total of 204.

NBA Preseason Record: 3-0

Home Favorites Rule

Overall this preseason and especially lately, home favorites have been crushing their opponents. This is especially true when it comes to home favorites of -5 or less, which would include our game, as well as four others on tonight’s big preseason slate.

After going 2-0 last night (the two games we picked were at -5 or -4 ½ when we picked them) I am going to once again try for a home favorite of -5 or less.

Since last Wednesday, home favorites of -5 or less are 12-4-1 ATS. They have consistently been a great way to make a profit this preseason and the reasoning is pretty simple. Especially lately, when home teams have been playing their starters more to gear up for the season, home teams have ended up as great plays ATS.

The same can be said about this game tonight. The Clippers have had three days off since their last game and since this is one of their final three preseason games, we should see the starters at or close to 30 minutes apiece.

The Blazers on the other hand just played into overtime in their last preseason games just two nights ago. In that game, their starters played about 25-28 minutes on average and that could tick upward tonight. Even though the Blazers are undefeated in the preseason, this will be their toughest test yet.

The Sharp Pick

With Blake Griffin coming back from injury, the Clippers are going to want to reestablish their chemistry. This time of the preseason is the best time to do that, so I expect to see the most of Griffin in this one. The Clippers’ frontcourt is a bad mismatch for Mason Plumlee and Al-Farouq Aminu. If we see extended run from both LA big men, it could be what gives the Clippers the win here.

Remember, Portland knocked out the Clippers in last season’s playoffs without Griffin. The Clippers probably think they should have cruised through that series, especially after winning the first two games without Griffin.

LA has not forgotten their collapse and pretty disappointing season with all the Griffin drama. Beating up on Portland at home will be the perfect preseason medicine to get this team going in the right direction before the season starts. Add the Clippers at -4 ½ to your preseason NBA Picks on Thursday.
