What we must take into account is that Miami is looking just to win these games. Can they cover the large 15.5 point spread?

The Miami Heat continue to chase history as the lowly Detroit Pistons visit the American Airlines Center in South Beach. This is one of the most lopsided matchups that you'll see this season. Will Detroit shock the world? Not likely...but it is very possible that they get a cover against so much chalk in tonight's NBA betting

Tip-off is scheduled for tonight at 7:30 pm ET and can be seen on NBA TV.

5 Dimes Sportsbook lists Miami as a 15.5 point betting odds favorite and the total for the game is 199.

Miami will be looking for their 25th consecutive win while the Pistons have lost 9 straight games. This game could be over by the 2nd quarter!

"Ain't No Stopping Us Now.."

Everyone knows the song fairly well and Miami has been singing it as they can smell the record for consecutive wins set in a season of 33 set by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1971-72. Miami is coming back from overwhelming deficits to win basketball games. In their last game, they came back from a 27 point hole to knock off the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Best Player On the Planet

This is such a powerful title, but Lebron James has lived up to the billing ever since he decided to take his talents to South Beach. Dwayne Wade has learned quickly that this is LBJ's team and Miami has been successful ever since James took the lead role. He's coming off of a triple double. It was a 25 point, 12 rebound, and 10 assist effort in a 98-95 win over Cleveland. Look for Lebron to throw the knockout punch on the Pistons early as a rest is in order.

The Power of Battier

Some people don't realize just how important that Shane Battier is to this basketball team. Battier is a double threat in that he can knock down the crucial 3 pointer when needed and he's always the player that guards the opponents best player, especially during crunch time. If you go back to the Miami comeback against the Celtics, Battier stuck to Jeff Green like glue to preserve the Miami comeback and keep the streak alive. Miami needs the presence of Chris Bosh, but at this point, I'd say that Battier might even be more important to the team.

Detroit is in Trouble

We don't have to beat around the bush. The Pistons are a team with some talent but don't have someone to lead the team and are a poor fit. The numbers say it all. During their 9 game losing streak, Detroit has given up 107.9 points per game on 51.2% shooting from the field and have lost each game by an average margin of 17.9 points per game. The situation doesn't get much worse for Detroit.

Although the Pistons have legitimate threats like Greg Monroe, he's super-inconsistent, and that won't cut it in this league if they're playing any team, nevertheless Miami.

Head To Head Trends

Home team is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings

Under is 15-5-1 in the last 21 meetings

Pistons are 8-20-1 ATS in their last 29 meetings

This is the night that Miami goes in for the kill. Detroit is playing their worst basketball of the season while the Heat might not be playing their best, but Lebron James and Shane Battier refuse to let this team lose. 15.5 points is a lot, but not against Detroit.
