one out of three day on Sunday, I am looking to get back on my feet for Monday
evening, as the Pacers head into Memphis to face the Grizzlies. The NBA Odds
for this game favor Memphis by -6, with a very low total of 172 ½ points. One
this rather large Monday of hoops, who should we back in this clash between
east and west contenders?
Pacers starting to grow into themselves
Indiana has started the month of January winning seven of their first ten games, and they are only 2 ½ games back of the Heat for the top spot in the Eastern Conference right now. This upcoming four game road trip for the Pacers is going to be tough, as they kick it off in Memphis. They then have to travel to Portland, Utah, and Denver, all of which won’t be easy games.
The Pacers have had a nice few days off as well heading into this matinee game in Memphis. Both teams will want to show their muscle on defense tonight, which is one of the reasons why there is such a low total. Especially in these matinees, where totals have been lower this season, this game probably won’t have much offense.
The Pacers are currently 1st in the NBA in points allowed, giving up only 89 points per game this season. The Grizzlies aren’t that far behind, as they are ranked 2nd in the NBA, also giving up only 89.6 points per game.
Grizzlies win in OT
In a hard fought game Saturday evening, the Grizzlies went on the road and topped the Bulls in overtime. This was another big win for this team, who has had big wins and bad losses all throughout this season.
Memphis and Chicago were deadlocked at 76 points when regulation ran out, making that one of the lowest game totals of the season. This game between another Central Division foe and Memphis will probably have the same feel as the one in Chicago.
The initial thought that is probably rolling through minds of NBA fans for this game is just blindly adding the Under to their NBA picks. This is by far the lowest total of the NBA today. It being an early game, along with both defensive teams makes this total lower than any other by about 20 points today. So, will the under be the bet, I’m here to help you jump or back off of that cliff.
The Sharp Pick
These two teams don’t play one another that much, but when they have in the past, the total has gone under. Five of the last seven games these two have played one another in the last four seasons have gone under.
However, this is a REALLY low total, and 172 ½ would only need a few high 80s scores to go over. Both of these teams are very capable of scoring on one another, even with the stellar defense. I’m going away from the total, as I feel that the spread offers us the best value for our sports picks. I do think this will be a low scoring and close game, and that is why I’m siding with the Pacers taking points. I think Indiana will keep this game close with their defense, and I doubt more than five points decide this game. Take the points.NBA Pick: Pacers +6.5
