A night after playing in Milwaukee and dominating the Bucks, the Cavs are headed into Indiana to play the Pacers on Wednesday. Will the Cavs rest any of their stars? My NBA pick inside.
Cavaliers almost locked in
Cleveland is now 3 ½ games up on the Raptors with four games to go, and now we have to be faced with the prospect of some of the Cavs resting on the second night of a back to back. Tyronn Lue said that he was not sure who was going to play on Wednesday, but I think it’s safe to say that Lebron James might sit this one out. The sharps seem to think so as well. Soon after opening at -1, the line is already up to -2 ½, and it might climb even higher if we hear news on which Cavs players will be rested.
With that being said, the better wager on this one might be the first half spread in favor of the Pacers. Without knowing who will play and who will sit for the Cavs, the Pacers playing at home have been very good ATS in the first half, and with Cleveland coming off the back to back, they might be pretty tired and simply not into this game tonight.
The Pacers on the other hand are fighting to keep a playoff spot, and the difference between the 8th and 7th seed in the East this season is huge. Indiana does not want to play Cleveland in the first round of the playoffs, and a win tonight will go a long way into keeping them in the 7th seed. With how well they have played defense at home this season, and with the NBA odds for the first half favoring the Pacers at only -1, I am laying the point with them in the first half of this one.
The Sharp Pick
If you take away their losses to the Bulls and Magic at home recently, the Pacers have covered in four of their last seven home games coming into tonight. While their defense is slipping some, the Cavs potentially resting some players could make the Pacers; defense look a lot better tonight. Indiana ranks in the top five in Defensive Efficiency this season, and at home this year they have given up only 98.7 points per game.
The Cavs on the other hand have been bad on back to backs recently, and while it comes with the territory when they rest players, it is even more concerning tonight against a very solid defensive team. The Cavs barely beat the Hawks on no rest recently, but before that the Cavs were 0-3 ATS and SU on the second night of a back to back in their three previous games on no rest.
While we don’t yet know who is in and who is out, the Pacers are not in a position to take the Cavs lightly, no matter who they play tonight, my NBA pick is Indiana. I see them locking in on defense in the first half, and covering the -1 they are getting from the sportsbooks in the first half.
