The Nets snapped a four-game slide last night with a win over the Bucks as the Pacers look to add to their current three-game winning streak but which team covers in our NBA odds tonight?
Brooklyn Nets (10-19 SU, 12-17 ATS)
The Nets had been playing a particularly putrid brand of basketball, dropping four in a row and failing to cover in NBA odds in all four contests. However the boys from Brooklyn put an end to all the misery when they hosted the Bucks last night and notched a check in the win column by dispatching Milwaukee 104-93 and mercifully rewarded their long suffering backers by covering the 4 ½ point impost.
Though the Nets may have celebrated last evening they have to be wondering why the NBA scheduling gods would send them on a three-game road trip during the holiday season in which they play the very best the league has to offer. After their game tonight at the Banker's Life Fieldhouse in which they take on the Pacers who have been nearly invincible at home, the club travels to the home of another NBA powerhouse in the San Antonio Spurs on New Year's Eve and concludes their sojourn with a stop at the Thunderdome where they take on Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Indiana Pacers (23-5 SU, 20-8 ATS)
The Pacers have had three consecutive wins and four straight covers in NBA odds which is in keeping with their success thus far this season. The core of this team begins and ends with a stifling defense which has propelled them to the top spot in points allowed, surrendering only 89.4 per game.
However, it has been their lack of a muscular offense that has fans and pundits alike questioning whether or not this team can keep pace with the juggernauts like Portland, Oklahoma City, Miami, Houston and even the LA Clippers. But that concern may be waning a bit after their recent offensive surge. Over the course of their last three games, all victories and covers, the Pacers have continued with their suffocating brand of defense allowing an average of just 82 points per game but have revved up their shooting and have poured in over 107 PPG. If you look at their average margin of victory over the entire season, you will find that Indiana leads all comers with a win margin that averages 9.28 points per game.
Therefore, it's not surprising that the Pacers will be a heavy favorite tonight. They are playing perhaps their best basketball of the season and have had five full days to rest their bones since they destroyed these same Brooklyn Nets in their own house on Monday night by the score of 103-86. Meanwhile the Nets will be playing their third game since then when they tip off against the Pacers tonight.

I'm looking for a reason to play the Nets. Hell, anyone writing a preview of this game will tell you to bet the Pacers no matter what the spread. And that's the rub right there boys. By how many points do the Pacers win this evening after a long rest while playing superb basketball?
Center Brook Lopez recently broke his foot and is out for the season. Unfortunately the big man just happens to be the team's points and blocks leader. The Nets were without his services in their lopsided loss to the Pacers on Monday night. As of this writing I have not, I repeat not, looked at the spread for this game tonight. I wanted to assign my own spread to this game and see how it stacks up to the odds currently being dealt. The number I tagged the Pacers with was 14. I am now going to see where the odds lie and advise a play based on that.
Bet365.com has the Pacers -13 and because of that, I'll lay the heavy lumber and line up with my fellow squares. Play Indiana -13 in your NBA picks at Bet365.com.
