We are going to take a look at season win totals set by oddsmakers now that the NBA is right around the corner. Let's review a couple of Eastern conference teams to see if oddsmakers have given us any opportunity at a good number.

 Chicago Bulls

Chicago won 42 games last year and ranked fourth in NBA in attempts per game. I was really unhappy with the Bulls decision to get rid of Tom Thibodeau but I'm happy to see coach Thibs land in Minnesota. Fred Hoiberg brought a different mindset to Chicago which was more offensively orientated that was good enough to just miss the playoffs. While they did grab Dwayne Wade and Rajon Rondo they lost three All-Star type players in Derek Rose, Joakim Noah, and Pau Gasol. The issue for me with this team is that I think with the core they have of Wade, Rondo, and Butler it would thrive in a more defensive-minded Memphis Grizzlies type and putting a premium on getting stops. That is not what Hoiberg is about as he will want to push the tempo and spread the floor but they don't seem to have a lot of three-point options in their starting five. They don't seem to have the personnel to matchup with the vision and along with not being particularly deep looks to me to be a problem in Chicago, use that as an indication to always check the NBA odds first.

Detroit Pistons

Detroit won 44 games last year making the playoffs as the eighth seed.  I could go on forever about how good of a coach Stan van Gundy is but the main point is that this is now a Stan van Gundy team. The East is not like the West and Detroit should be able to make the playoffs again with a nice core of players and an underrated pickup in Tobias Harris who came over at the end of last season from the Magic. I'm a little bit surprised the number is not around 47 because all indications are that this team will be improved from last year. This to me looks like a really physical starting five but where they will lack is in the bench area so to me it seems like health will be a big issue. There is no reason to think though this team can't improve at least a few games from last year. Most recent news from the Detroit camp is that Stan van Gundy has spent a lot of time scouting other teams and matchups. He is one of the best in the business at making the most out of whatever players he has so this focus should only help them even more.
