After the All Star Break and with only around 25 games remaining for all teams, crunch time is officially here. Teams in the Eastern Conference are all chasing Miami down the stretch run of the season.
- Miami Heat (41-14 SU, 29-26 ATS, 1st in East standings)
The Heat are cruising right now as they have been doing for three season now. Miami always seems to turn it on around the month of February. They have won 12 straight games SU after losing outright to the Pacers on February 1st. However, the Heat have been losing their recent success against the spread, as I can imagine the books have been getting burned after underestimating them on the road several times during that stretch of 12 wins. However after going 8-2 ATS in the first ten wins, they have lost their last two games ATS, despite winning them SU.
- Indiana Pacers (Up one spot, 36-21 SU, 33-24 ATS, 2nd in East standings)
I guess I’ll join in on the “Indiana has the best chance of upsetting Miami,” train. However, no one in their right mind would say that “has the best chance,” is equal to “is going to beat Miami.” Indiana has been spectacular ATS recently and the hype around them is growing, but let’s be honest, nothing short of a 2012 Roy Hibbert and a 2009 Danny Granger flashback would be enough to get the job done in a seven game series. For now however, the Pacers should be a nice bet heading down the stretch either way.
- New York Knicks (Down one spot, 34-20 SU, 26-28 ATS, 3rd in East standings)
The Knicks are continuing to slide and now they have been moved down to third in the standings and my power rankings. New York is forgetting their defense and their offense isn’t getting the same flow as they had earlier. More and more it is becoming Carmelo Anthony versus the other team and not the Knicks as a whole. Their ATS record has shown their inconsistencies lately, and they have been an excellent fade over their last five games, going 0-5 ATS. This team has the talent to turn it on, but they look content coasting into the playoffs, so continuing to fade them might be the way to go.
- Brooklyn Nets (Up 2 spots, 34-24 SU, 26-30-2 ATS, Tied 4th in East standings)
Although they haven’t been showing it too much in their play the Nets are the only team that could occupy the fourth spot on my power rankings. I never put any faith in the Hawks even though they are currently tied with Brooklyn in the standings. If Deron Williams and Joe Johnson could get healthy, this team could make a run and be valuable as an NBA Pick. Brooklyn has long since been a good bet ATS, but I do think they could turn it around to end the season. Watch for the Nets to start possibly being a good bet again if they could get their guys healthy.
- Atlanta Hawks
- Chicago Bulls
- Boston Celtics
- Milwaukee Bucks
