See if you agree with our NBA picks, as we think that these are two of the best value bets for today.
Hawks vs. Bobcats
After going through practice on Sunday, Al Jefferson looks to be a game time decision heading into tonight’s game against the Hawks. Even if he isn’t quite 100% conditioning-wise, he will be a welcome sight for Charlotte Bobcats fans, and Michael Jordan, who signed him to a big deal this offseason.
However I don’t think Jefferson’s potential presence is going to be enough to stop Al Horford and the Hawks. Along with Paul Millsap, the frontcourt duo in Atlanta has been putting up stellar numbers. They should have no issues scoring on the Bobcats’ front line tonight, even if Jefferson makes his way back to the starting lineup. He hasn’t played since injuring his ankle almost two weeks ago in the opener, and he will surely not play his full minutes load if he is able to go.
This is why I think the Hawks are very undervalued in the NBA Odds. Atlanta is a -2 ½ road favorite here, and while the Hawks are scoring around 105 points per game, the Bobcats have only gotten to 90 per game without Jefferson to start the season.
The Atlanta Hawks are 7-1 ATS in their last eight games against the Bobcats, and they have also gone 4-0 SU and ATS in their last four trips to Charlotte. I am laying the few road points.
My Pick: Hawks -2 ½
Pistons vs. Blazers
Both of these teams have started the year with some offensive inconsistency, however both are showing their upside as well. Both Detroit and Portland are averaging over 100 points per game to start the season, and neither team’s defense is the model of excellence. Detroit is giving up 101 points per game, while the Blazers are also giving up over 100 points per game.
Like most teams, the Detroit Pistons don’t match up great with the Blazers, and I think that will produce a score into the 200s tonight. The over has cashed in four games in a row between these two teams. Also so far this season, the Pistons have gone 4-1 cashing the over.
With how big the Pistons are playing, they are going to have trouble matching up against the likes of Nicholas Batum and I expect a big game from the French forward. On the other side, although they don’t match up well defensively, the Pistons are a tough cover for the Blazers too. As good as he is offensively, LaMarcus Aldridge’s defense is no better than average. The Blazers are trying to hold down the center spot with Robin Lopez, and like Aldridge, his defense is right around average.
Trying to guard Andre Drummond, Josh Smith and Greg Monroe is going to put a big strain on the Blazers’ defense. I expect one or more of them to have great offensive games, and for this total to go into the 200s.
