NBA Picks: Mavericks -7.5
Best Line Offered: at 5Dimes

Dallas Mavericks (25-21 SU, 27-19 ATS)
The Mavs suffered a narrow 109-106 loss to the Thunder in Dallas on Friday night but cashed as 6½ point home dogs for all those who backed them in their NBA picks. They then hit the highway to tip off against the Houston Rockets as four-point visiting underdogs but this time they not only lost the game but failed to cover the number, bowing 115-104. Trevor Aziz torched the Mavs from downtown connecting on six treys and registered a season high 29 points while James Harden was a beast on the glass collecting 15 boards on 23 points. The Mavericks were out in front by eight at the half but saw their lead melt away as the Rockets got hot. Chandler Parsons bucketed a season-high 31 points for Dallas but it was not enough to stave off the surging Rockets.

Center Zaza Pachulia missed the game against Houston with a leg injury and is doubtful for tonight’s meeting with Los Angeles. However, Chandler Parsons, who began a slow start to the season after recovering from surgery to his right knee, is rounding into form for the Mavericks averaging 29 points per game over his last three games. Dallas is averaging 101.2 PPG which ranks them 19th in the NBA while surrendering 101.4 PPG placing them 16th in the league.

Los Angeles Lakers (9-37 SU, 19-26-1 ATS)
Kobe Bryant is retiring after this season and the future Hall-of-Famer would probably have preferred to avoid the 2015-2016 campaign entirely if he knew what was coming. The Lakers are vying with the 76’ers for the dubious distinction of having the worst record in the league and have made their case recently after dropping their last six and 10 of their last 11 contests. In addition they have failed to cover the spread in seven of those 11 games with their most recent loss coming at the hands of the Portland Trailblazers. The NBA odds makers installed the Lakers as 11 ½ point road dogs and even with all those points still disappointed all those who backed them when they fell 121-103.

The team’s loss to Portland on Saturday night followed a 108-95 defeat the previous evening to San Antonio. This season has been all about lopsided defeats and the team statistics are evidence of that. The Lakers are ranked 27th in scoring averaging just 96.4 points per game while allowing 106.6 PPG placing them 28th in defense. Los Angeles’s rebounding ranks them 21st (42.8 RPG) while they are 29th of 30 teams in assists with just 18.4 helpers per contest.

Betting Analysis
Dallas has won and covered both meetings this season and it appears they are destined for more success tonight. Dallas is 8-3-1 when playing on a day’s rest over their last dozen games while the Lakers are 1-5 over the course of their last six.

If you want to go back more than a season you will find that the Mavs are 7-2 ATS against the Lakers over the last nine meetings and own an edge on both sides of the court whether it be scoring or defending. Chandler Parson is now the straw that stirs the drink in Dallas and the way he has played recently makes it easier to swallow this large number that the Mavericks are laying on the road in LA tonight.
