NBA odds makers are giving the advantage to the home team in this one, listing Brooklyn as -3 ½ point favorites, which could prove to be a wise play, given the host is 7-3 ATS in the last ten meetings between these two squads.
The total seems to be hovering around 194 ½ to 195 points with most outlets, which could turn out to be a tough decision since Dallas is over in 7 of 8 against Eastern Conference opponents, while Brooklyn is under in 12 of their last 16 games played on two days rest.
The Mavericks will attempt to snap a three game skid tonight, but perhaps more importantly, they will try to bounce back from an epic collapse they suffered just two nights ago night in Memphis.
During the second quarter in their matchup against the Grizzlies this past Wednesday, Dallas was cruising, leading by 25 points, but by the time the final buzzer sounded, the Mavericks were on the wrong side of the scoreboard, losing the game outright 90-84.
Luckily for the NBA bettors who backed Dallas, they were still able to cash in their tickets, as the Mavericks were at least able to fall inside the number, covering the spread as +7 ½ point underdogs.
When looking ahead at this matchup against the Nets, the ATS from Wednesday could be a plus for the bettors wanting to back the Mavericks tonight, as they are an impressive 12-4 ATS in their last 16 games that follow a game where they covered the point spread.
Also, Dallas is 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games overall, including a stellar 8-1 ATS mark in their last nine played on the road.
Meanwhile, Brooklyn comes into this game, having won five of their last seven games straight up, including victories over the Pacers, Nuggets, Bucks and Hornets. They actually beat Milwaukee twice in a home game/road game scenario played on back-to-back nights.
However, the Nets recent success hasn’t translated well at all for us bettors. In fact, Brooklyn is 2-6 ATS in their last eight games that follow a straight up win and 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games played at the Barclays Center.
The Nets have also performed poorly when facing Southwest Division opponents, as they are only 1-7 ATS in their last eight games against those teams.
As far as playoff implications is concerned for both these teams, Dallas is five games behind the eighth seed in the Western Conference, while Brooklyn is tied for the fourth seed with the Atlanta Hawks, but trail by just two games for the second overall spot in the Eastern Conference.
Dallas has won just 9 road games this season in 29 chances, while Brooklyn has proved to be a tough opponent to beat on their home court with a 20-12 record. Let’s also not forget the embarrassing loss Dallas must carry with them from the other night, which will most likely produce a flat performance for them on the road. I expected Brooklyn to be laying more points in this one, so -3 ½ points with the Nets is definitely the right play to make in this game.NBA Pick: Nets -3 ½ points at bet365
