Dallas is one of the hottest teams in the NBA heading into the All Star Break. They have won five straight games SU, and they have to head into Charlotte tonight to play the Bobcats. The NBA Odds have Charlotte at +3, with a total of 197 points.

Kemba back; Cats attack

The Bobcats were still playing well without Kemba Walker in the lineup, but now that the young point guard is back in action, the Cats have a whole different dynamic to go along with Al Jefferson. Walker is only in his third year in the league after playing three full seasons at UConn. He was having a seriously great season before going down with injury, and he has continued to be one of the more undervalued point guards in the NBA. Once he learns to play more consistently and with more control, this guy may be considered a Top 10 PG in the league.

Combine that with Jefferson and you have a 1-2 punch that many in the league cannot replicate. This includes the Dallas Mavs. Even though I fully expect Dirk Nowitzki to have another great game tonight, the Mavs don’t have anyone consistent enough to be a second scorer against a tough Cats defense. Monta Ellis is a little banged up and playing through a hamstring injury right now, and no matter who tries to defend Walker, it likely won’t end well.

Dallas has dominated the Cats in the past, including a meeting this season. The Mavs came back to beat the Cats in Dallas, but Charlotte likely won’t allow that to happen again now playing at home. They are going to slow down the pace of the game as much as possible, and make the Mavs into a half court offense. Even though the Mavs are still very good in their half court sets, the Bobcats’ defense is so quick and athletic that Dallas won’t have a ton of open looks. Even though Jefferson isn’t a great defender, the Mavs have no one in the post that will be able to score, or more importantly, defend Big Al.

Tuesday NBA Picks of the Day

The Sharp Pick

The Bobcats are 5-3 ATS this season when playing the Western Conference at home, and even though the Mavs are the second best road ATS team in the NBA, (18-8 ATS) I think it may be making them a bit overvalued here. The Cats are one of the top five defensive teams in the NBA at home, and other than Dirk Nowitzki, the Mavs won’t have much success scoring the ball tonight. Dirk had 14 of his 25 points in the 4th quarter of their game against Charlotte back in early December, but tonight even if he goes off again, the Cats are the play.

This season when playing on 2-3 days rest, the Bobcats are a league-leading 9-3 ATS. This young team is going to thrive after a couple days in between their loss to the Spurs and this game versus Dallas. Look for Charlotte to clamp down on everyone whose name isn’t Dirk, and cover the spread for our NBA picks.
