New Orleans has not started the season well at 0-3. Granted they have played the Warriors twice, but still, they have not played much defense regardless.

NBA odds
Odds makers have come out with the Pelicans a -3.5 favorite at home. To me thought the value sides with Orlando and I will take them getting the points for one of my NBA Picks of the day. There are pretty good odds out there on taking Orlando like at Pinnacle Sports -107.

Orlando Magic
Offensively the Magic are averaging 103.3 points per game, 40.2% shooting from the field, and 29.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Like New Orleans facing the Warriors twice Orlando has not had an easy schedule going up against probable playoff teams Washington, OKC, and Chicago. They are thriving in the paint averaging 48.7 points per game which ranks third in the NBA, and total rebounds at 64.7 ranking second. They also rank first in attempts but that is a bit skewed (but not by much) with the double OT game they had versus OKC.

Defensively Orlando is allowing 106.3 points per game, 41.3 % shooting from the field (9th), and 26.5% shooting from distance (4th). In typical Scott Skiles fashion this team, as opposed to years past, will play some solid defense along with running a quick pace. They will have their hands full against a Pelicans team that wants to run as well, but I think they will get enough stops and put up enough points of their own to stay in this until the end.

New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans come in averaging 103 points per game, 42.7% shooting from the field, and 34.2% shooting from beyond the arc. They are a bit thin right now but the potential for this team is pretty high, and they will run up-tempo as much as possible averaging 91.3 shot attempts per game which ranks fourth in the league.

Defensively New Orleans is allowing 119 points per game, 48.9% shooting from the field, and 41.3 % shooting from distance. Again though, they played the best team in the league twice already so those averages are off a bit. Still, there are some signs that this team will not perform well defensively, and that is typical of head coach Gentry. Against Portland they allowed the Blazers to shoot 50% from the field and 37.5 % from distance.

This should be a fast paced game with both teams putting up a lot of shots. Whether they go in or not is another story. As far as attempts go this game seems headed for a high scoring affair, but what I like is for Orlando to get a few more stops than New Orleans and possibly keep the Pelicans winless on the season. For one of your NBA picks I recommend taking the points with the Magic who have a legitimate shot to win this game.

NBA Picks: Orlando Magic +3 (-105) at Pinnacle

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":2882516, "sportsbooksIds":[93,1096,19,92,238,349], "LineTypeId":1, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]
