The NBA Odds for this one are largely in favor of the Grizzlies at -13 ½, with a total of 186.
The Magic just pulled off a big trade shipping JJ Redick to the Bucks. This does two things. It ships one of their best and only healthy players to Milwaukee in exchange for not very much except Beno Udrih, who also has an expiring contract this season. Orlando also got a couple of young guys that didn’t see much playing time in Milwaukee, Doron Lamb and Tobias Harris.
The other thing it did is put up a big sign in the Amway Center that says "We are going to suck for the next 30 games". That does a lot more than hurt the record in the standings.
Now heading to meet the Grizzlies, the Magic will be on a shorter bench tonight. Jameer Nelson looks to be out for this one along with a host of other Magic players.
The Grizzlies have won nine out of their last ten games when playing Orlando at home, including four in a row SU in Memphis. However, -13 ½ is a lot and it’s looking a little questionable. However, looking elsewhere, such as the 1st half spread might be the way to go with our NBA picks.
The Sharp Pick
With the Magic short staffed and probably a little demoralized, I think the Grizzlies -7 in the first half is the way to go. The Magic play little to no defense to start, while Memphis may have the best defensive starting five in the NBA. I expect the Grizz to choke down on the Magic in the early going, and put this one away in the first half. I expect a double-digit lead at the end of two quarters, so lay the points in the 1H with Memphis.
My Pick: Grizzlies -7 1H
