Find out who we believe will come away with the win, but more importantly cover the point spread in our NBA Picks of the night.
NBA Picks: Lakers vs. T-Wolves at the Target Center
The Los Angeles Lakers (20-26 SU, 6-15 ATS away) will be on the road this Friday evening and that hasn’t spelled good news for the team, who has lost eight straight games played away from Staples Center, but they are facing the Minnesota Timberwolves (17-25 SU, 9-10 ATS home), who have also been struggling as of late. Both teams will be fighting to get back to their winning ways.
Tip off in this contest is scheduled for 9:30 PM EST from the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota and can be seen live on television, with local broadcast coverage provided by Time Warner Cable.
As it stands right now, the current line on the NBA odds board has Lakers as -2 ½ point road favorites, while the over/under total is coming in at 197 1/2 points.
Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers will be in a good position to end their losing woes on the road, as they go up against a Minnesota team that they have beaten nine consecutive times in their own building and 19 straight overall dating back to the 2006 season.
This is also good new for us bettors, as Los Angeles has covered the point spread in five consecutive matchups against the Timberwolves when the game is betting played in Minnesota.
However, Los Angeles is a poor team against the spread lately, going just 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 3-7 ATS in their last ten versus Western Conference opponents.
The Lakers boast the sixth best offense in the league, averaging 102.2 points per game, but they are under in nine of their last twelve games overall and four of their last five played on a Friday night.
Minnesota comes into this matchup having lost five games in a row and as a result is in last place in the Northwest Division and one of the worst teams in the Western Conference.
They are also disappointing us bettors, as they are a dismal 2-8-1 against the NBA spread in their last 11 games overall, 2-6 ATS in their last eight at home and only 1-7 ATS in their last eight versus Western Conference opponents.
The underdog is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings, but given their lack of success against the Lakers, you can’t put any stock into that statistic.
Minnesota’s defense gives up 96.8 points per game, which is in the top half of the league at 13th best in the NBA. This could explain why they are under in four straight games played at home and four of their last five against the West.
The Lakers have been awful on the road, but Minnesota has been that much worse overall. Tonight, Los Angeles will finally get off the shined and earn a rare win on the road, while also covering the point spread.
