The Los Angeles Lakers have fared well in closing out a back-to-back situation on the road this year, which could provide them some value against the Denver Nuggets Monday night.

Let’s take a closer look at the NBA betting line for this Western Conference matchup at the Pepsi Center, with the opening tip scheduled for 9:00 p.m. ET.

Los Angeles moved to just a game under .500 after Sunday’s 103-99 victory over the Dallas Mavericks as three-point road underdogs, while going UNDER the total for the first time in four contests.

The Lakers have won all three of their games since the death of longtime owner Jerry Buss, as they try to make a push into the upcoming NBA playoffs—sitting 2.5 games back of the Houston Rockets for the No. 8 spot.

Back home

Denver has dropped four of its last seven games, but it’s important to note that six of those affairs took place away from the Mile High City. The Nuggets return home after picking up a 113-99 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats as 10-point road favorites last Saturday, while going OVER the total for the fifth time in six contests.

Monday’s host definitely deserves to be a listed favorite on SBR's NBA odds page, considering it has compiled a 23-3 overall record at this venue during the 2012-13 pro basketball season, including a 14-1 mark versus conference rivals.

Back-to-back road games with no rest

I was a bit surprised to learn that the Lakers were 0-6 in the front end of a back-to-back situation with both games coming on the road entering yesterday’s game versus the Mavericks, while going 4-2 in the second affair.

Los Angeles will need to play one of its best games of the season to improve its record to 5-2 in this role, as Denver has gone 42-8 at home when facing an opponent that’s coming in with zero days rest.

Gallinari’s injury

Danilo Gallinari is listed as probable with a thigh injury for this affair, as the Nuggets’ leading scorer has been limited to 12 combined points in his last two games. He has played a big role in leading his team to two wins in three meetings with Los Angeles this season—scoring at least 19 in each affair. Gallinari leads a group of four starters on the roster averaging 12.1 points or more per game.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Lakers as one of their NBA picks Monday night, as the Nuggets haven’t been favored by more than 3.5 points in at least the last 10 meetings in this series. Los Angeles will be seeking revenge from a 112-105 setback to Denver as 5.5-point home favorites on Jan. 6.
