The Knicks have fallen short in the first two matchups of their present road trip, held to 78.5 PPG against the Nuggets and Warriors. Will the OVER get the money again at the Rose Garden?
Thursday’s NBA betting has Mike Woodson’s squad visiting the Portland Trail Blazers, who have had the OVER cash at 8-1 in their last nine home dates.

Knicks, Anthony thrashed in Denver

New York trailed by as many as 34 points in Wednesday’s 117-94 defeat to the Denver Nuggets, failing to cash as an 8 ½-point road dog. New York’s Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler were held to a combined 13 points, both leaving the battle early with knee injuries.

Knicks guard Iman Shumpert led his side’s scoring with 20 points, uniting with mate J. R. Smith to drain 8-of-10 shots beyond the arc. Smith finished with a team-high eight assists, while veteran Kenyon Martin logged four of his squad’s nine blocks.

The contest’s 211 points leaped above the NBA odds ‘total’ of 206, moving the OVER to 2-1 in the Knicks’ last three games. New York was outscored in paint points, 62-24, while edged in rebounds, 53-33.

Blazers, Aldridge fall short at home

Portland logged its third loss in four games with Tuesday’s 102-97 defeat as a 1 ½-point home dog against the Memphis Grizzlies. The Trail Blazers were held to 40.5 percent field shooting, trailing by as many as 15 points.

Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge notched 28 points and 10 boards, picking up his third double-double in five games. Portland’s Damian Lillard knocked down 8-of-17 floor shots, finishing with 27 points and seven assists.

The duel’s combined 199 points jumped beyond the ‘total’ of 186, with the Blazers sinking 28-of-29 free throws. Aldridge added four blocks, while mates Nicolas Batum and J.J. Hickson logged two steals each.

Back the UNDER in Portland opened Portland as a 4 ½-point favorite, while first listing the ‘total’ at 196. Early betting on Portland and the UNDER shifted the numbers to 5 ½ and 194 ½.

Anthony is expected to miss the matchup for New York, while Chandler remains “doubtful” to take the floor. Portland’s LaMarcus Aldridge and Nicolas Batum are both listed as “probable,” recovering from migraine and wrist issues, respectively.

I am following the early ‘steam,’ adding a ticket on the UNDER here and looking for a tightly-played battle in Portland.
January’s matchup in Madison Square Garden between the foes saw Anthony put up 45 points en route to OVER tickets cashing. The six-time All-Star’s lack of presence this time around should give way to less octane, while Portland was held to 34.5 percent field shooting in New York’s last trip to Rose Garden, two years ago.

The UNDER is 5-2 in the Knicks’ last seven games played without Anthony, including a 3-1 mark in the span’s four road contests. Portland should also be in a spot to tighten up here, with the UNDER going 13-5 in the team’s last 18 spots that came after a matchup of allowing 100 or more points.

Look for both sides to make this a battle of grabbing boards, giving UNDER backers the money.
