Carmelo Anthony will make his first trip to the Mile High City since being traded from the Denver Nuggets to the New York Knicks more than two years ago, as the two teams face off Wednesday night.

Let’s take a closer look at the NBA betting odds for this non-conference affair at the Pepsi Center, with the opening tip scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Horrible performance

New York has alternated wins and losses over its last four games, as it attempts to bounce back from a 92-63 blowout defeat to the Golden State Warriors as 2.5-point road underdogs Monday night, while going UNDER the total for the sixth time in seven contests.

The Knicks are 2-4 straight up (SU) and against the spread (ATS) following a loss by 20 points or more the last two-plus seasons, with the OVER going 5-1 in that situation.

March madness

Denver has won nine games in a row, including a 108-93 victory over the Phoenix Suns as nine-point road favorites Monday night, while going UNDER the total for the fifth time in six contests.

The Nuggets are 6-0 SUATS in the month of March during the 2012-13 campaign, as they look to improve upon their 28-3 overall record at home.

Melo returns

Carmelo Anthony hasn’t played in the Mile High City since being traded to the Big Apple a few years ago, as he currently ranks second in the league in averaging 27.9 points per game.

He certainly isn’t 100 percent due to a nagging knee injury, which limited him to just 14 points versus the Warriors.

Anthony posted 34 points and six rebounds against his former team in a 112-106 victory as 4.5-point home favorites on Dec. 9, while going OVER the posted total of 205.

Favoritism is hard to ignore

NBA handicappers definitely need to be aware that the favorite has covered the number in 17 of the last 24 meetings in this series, while the OVER is currently on a 4-0 run.

The Nuggets are 7-1 SU and 5-3 ATS as home favorites of 6.5 to 9 points this season, while the Knicks are 1-16 SU and 8-8-1 ATS when tipping off as road underdogs within the same point range the last two-plus seasons.

I’m going to recommend that readers play the total as one of their NBA picks Wednesday night, as the OVER is 9-3 in the Nuggets’ last 12 games versus Eastern Conference foes, while the Knicks have climbed above the number in 11 of 15 games following a SU loss of more than 10 points.
