NBA Picks: Knicks vs. Nets

The Knicks and Nets have both been a disaster this season and enter Thursday’s meeting with a combined record of 8-26. It’s shocking but that’s the reality. How are we looking to place our NBA picks when these two collide Thursday night?

Remember the preseason NBA conversations? The Miami Heat were supposed to be atop the Eastern Conference while the Chicago Bulls and Indiana Pacers were expected to fight for the second and third seeds. Then, it would be up to the New York Knicks and New Jersey Nets to duke it out for fourth and fifth in the conference. As it turns out, that thinking was way off.

The New York Knicks can win because…

The Nets are very beaten up right now. If you’re going to take the Nets with your sports picks, you should note that they’re without Paul Pierce right now and are very likely to be without Deron Williams (doubtful) as well. That leaves the team without their floor general and one of their most complete scorers.

The New York Knicks have endured a long losing streak but they’ve played some good teams in the process. This is more than a winnable game for them and you’re getting them as a dog on the NBA odds

The Brooklyn Nets can win because…

The Knicks can’t even win a game these days. When you look at New York, they’ve lost nine in a row and probably would struggle to beat the New York Liberty these days – let alone another NBA team. Their only wins this season have come against Milwaukee, Charlotte and Atlanta. Those aren’t exactly NBA championship contenders. The Knicks are awful and furthermore, they are in complete disarray. Head coach Mike Woodson is on the hot seat as it looks like the team has tuned him out.

As for the Nets, they’re not much better but at least they have injuries to blame. They haven’t been healthy since the start of the season and that’s hurt them.

Outlook & Pick

This is a toss-up if you’ve ever seen one. The Nets are without Williams and Pierce, the Knicks are without Tyson Chandler. The Nets have issues on the sidelines as they just removed Lawrence Frank from the equation while the Knicks have coaching problems of their own with Woodson being heavily scrutinized. The Knicks are only a nine-game losing streak while the Nets have lost 11 of 14.

At the end of the day, I’ll take a shot with the Knicks with my NBA picks. The main reason is they’ve been off since Sunday and that extra time should allow them to regroup.
