The Miami Heat and New York Knicks are two of the hotter teams in the NBA entering the home stretch of the 2012-13 season, as they prepare to meet Tuesday night.

Let’s take a closer look at the NBA betting odds for this Eastern Conference matchup, with the opening tip scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET at AmericanAirlines Arena on TNT.

New York owns the league’s longest active winning streak at eight games, which includes a 108-89 victory over the Boston Celtics as 6.5-point home favorites Sunday, while going UNDER the posted total of 197.5.

The Knicks are 14-12 straight up (SU) and 16-10 against the spread (ATS) in the month of April the last two-plus seasons, while the UNDER is 14-12 in that situation.

Getting things done

Miami has wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference by winning 29 of its last 30 games, as it comes off an impressive 88-86 victory over the San Antonio Spurs as nine-point road underdogs Sunday, while going UNDER the total for the first time in four contests.

The Heat are an NBA-best 22-1 since the All-Star break, while they’ve won 21 of 30 games in April since the arrival of Chris Bosh and LeBron James in South Beach.

Bad situation

NBA handicappers may find the points inviting in this affair due to the Knicks winning two of the first three meetings with the Heat this year, but it’s important to note that they’ve gone 0-3 SUATS as road underdogs of 6.5 to 9 points this season.

New York has managed to win just one of 19 games in that particular situation dating back to the 2010-11 campaign, which makes it nearly impossible to back this squad on the money line.

Home dominance

The Heat have won 17 consecutive home games, while possessing a 32-3 overall record at this particular venue, with one of those losses coming against the Knicks on Dec. 6.

Miami is 10-2 SU and 7-5 ATS as home favorites of 6.5 to 9 points during the 2012-13 campaign.

I’m going to recommend that readers play the total as one of their NBA picks Tuesday night, as the Knicks have gone OVER the number in all three games when tipping off as road underdogs of 6.5 to 9 points.

It’s important to monitor a laundry list of injuries in this affair, especially the status of New York center Tyson Chandler (questionable, hamstring), as he’s virtually a game-time decision after missing the last 10 contests.
